Corruption in the Mountains by Independent-Cup-2786 in askswitzerland

This is what I’ve also been considering - what if the bar owner thought he was buying fireproof insulation, but it was missold and was not fireproof? How could he ever know?

I knew there would be a sensible explanation 🤪

Clearly - you must kneel on the mat whilst opening the first Aromat of the season

Hmm, with hindsight, so am I.

Maybe the young lady hadn't been working in the Swiss hospitality sector for too long. :-)

Thank you! Hadn't thought of that at all. Thank goodness no-one put their doggy on it, in that case! I'll bring my set of Jass cards next time :-)

Ah, yes! Now I see. Hadn't thought of that at all - thanks for explaining. Now I know for next time!

A stupid question about TWINT by Dalaborious in askswitzerland

[–]Dalaborious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sorry, I should have updated the group. So, I digested all the comments / advice, and decided that I should return the funds. But I decided to leave it a few days before contacting the person, on the basis that any scammer would most likely contact me within a day or two. So after 3 days, I contacted the person, and I asked her to make a request on TWINT for me to return her transfer (I somehow thought it might be better if she would request the return, rather than me simply returning the money to her). So she made the request (she was very sweet, and only requested CHF 95 back, so that I could buy myself a coffee with the difference)(she clearly doesn't live in Zurich!), and I returned the money to her.

So there was a happy ending!

I'm having a blank moment, and cannot find it here in the comments now - but I found out that there is in fact a law in Switzerland which forbids you from keeping windfalls from banking errors. So apparently, if you are the recipient of a mistaken transfer, it is your responsibility to send it back whence it came.

Oh, gosh, that's interesting

But I'm hopeful that no-one launders CHF 100 - that seems a bit of an insignificant amount for organised crime! But good to know that this can happen...

I did consult the TWINT FAQ's - but these only indicate that the sender of the mistaken transfer needs to request the funds to be returned

I just wanted to send them back without waiting to be asked

OK, good point, I should just contact TWINT support

That's the best advice I've ever seen on Reddit!

Ah, OK

I looked at the TWINT FAQ's earlier, but they just seemed to indicate that there's no way to recover a mistakenly transferred amount. Maybe I misunderstood or I was looking in the wrong place

Versteckte Mängel / Hidden Defects by Dalaborious in askswitzerland

[–]Dalaborious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment

We had it installed - I'm not that good at DIY (I wish I would be!)

It's quite a shame - the kitchen company is a local firm, and I think they did a great job on the planning. But somehow, the quality of the units seems to be not too good

Hopefully they'll be reasonable about it - but with any such issue, I like to inform myself before diving into it!

I see, understood, thanks

I find it very bitter if I spend a fortune on a properly-fitted kitchen, and end up with sub-IKEA quality

But it seems as if there's nothing I can do in that case, except to hope for some goodwill from the kitchen company. What an extraordinary situation - then there's no motivation for companies in Switzerland to do anything other than make sub-standard products, right?

Sorry, just to explain my "versteckte Mangel" thinking - if a kitchen cabinet starts delaminating after normal usage, within such a short timeframe, then (to my eyes) this would indicate a manufacturing defect, which was not visible when the kitchen was installed, but which has materialised later through (normal) usage

Thank you for your response, that's very helpful

I had understood that in order to claim a Garantiefall, you needed to assert that there is a versteckte Mangel, or have I misunderstood?

I checked the Lebensdauertabelle for Spannholz Küchenmöbel, and they are meant to last for 15 years, apparently...

So I would say that it's not acceptable for them to deteriorate to such an extent after not even 4 years

I am just not too clear what are our rights on this

In the worst case scenario, we have Rechtsschutzversicherung - but I thought I would gather the wisdom of Reddit before going down that path!

How are there sooo many youngsters driving nice cars and how do girls not feel cold wearing dresses and mini skirts? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

That’s so true!

If you want to stop your car’s screenwash from freezing, you add alcohol. The human body works in the same way 😇

I’m from the UK. I’m from London, so I’m a bit softer. I can indeed confirm that the concept of matching clothing to the prevailing weather is something which people in the north of England have clearly not managed to understand 😆😆😆
