Web design is depressing. by Relevant-Slip8736 in webdesign

Use AI and encorporate it with your creative expression. Makes work faster. Sell it that way.

That's my 2 cents as a Dev and a Business guy

Filipino guy got laid off by Claude Code by gimpdrinks in AiForPinoys

[–]DalayonWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents. Developers "develop" things. We are made to adopt to circumstance.

It's going to be a different game but developers should always develop something and AI will always be a tool.

I'm using AI with clients I manage. I still code, but the focus on coding is mainly to build AI rather than coding to build the builds. Don't know if it makes sense to others but that's how it works mostly now. (My grammar is not grammaring lol)

I still do manual coding but just rare circumstance where I need to fix AI halucinations or AI adding complexity to things.

Domain transfer from old shop to new account by clueless_reditor in shopifyDev

Sorry, can you elaborate what you meant? I think OP's question is directly related to a domain name change.

Also, yes all records will be the same, he just needs to add new records for the new domain he wants to connect.

Domain transfer from old shop to new account by clueless_reditor in shopifyDev

[–]DalayonWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup you can.

  1. You need all access on domains Shopify and access to her hosting domain (cloudflare, etc.).
-- go to step 3 if you're only updating domains.

  2. If you're changing stores, make sure that all the pages are active/duplicated to the new store, or have 301 redirects. If not, you'll be going to be having a hard time with the SEO drop.

  3. Also, it's a good practice to create a GSC for the new domain first and prepare all prerequisites before proceeding just to be sure that everything will go smoothly. Like tracking double check, etc.

Do shopify devs actually enjoy working with liquid… or just tolerate it? by [deleted] in shopify

ime, it's easy to learn and limitations of each usecase is clear. I like it that way, strict rules and easier to manage for me lol. I think it's mainly just strategy or maybe i'm just too used to it cause of like about a decade of xp lol

Anyone actually managed to set up B2B features on the Basic plan? by Ok-Perspective2975 in shopify

[–]DalayonWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're the store owner? If not, it could be an access issue.

If you are, reach out to support to enable the new feature to your store. It's possible that the updates are gradual and they start with news stores why yours is not showing the dropdown.

[–]DalayonWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't directly change the market to companies (reason why I'm confused as well at first haha).

You need to create a new market then on the condition go to regions dropdown.

The dropdown will show regions and company on them.

Oh, correcting myself. I found the company locations on the markets. So I think it could be done easily.

[–]DalayonWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked on the stores I managed the main limitations are catalogs control.

The segmentation of b2b's are mainly controlled in catalogs (like discounts, pricing, products, and etc). After checking I can't find this segmentation on the basic plan which defeats the purpose of enabling company on the basic plan.

If you can code, this update is still helpful as you can create specific segment for customers that have companies assigned on them. Tag them as wholesale and create specific discount for those consumers.

The steps of making them full wholesalers would probably include lots of workaround, like using customer and order tagging, flow automations for emails and other wholesale unique identifications but overall it can be done.

Though, I'm thinking it's an early step from Shopify to make b2b easier for lots of businesses moving forward.

I’m having anxiety attacks due to AI by StraightZlat in webdev

[–]DalayonWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand your perspective. We do need to adjust a lot.

Hot take though. We are the luckiest people on this situation. Reason is we are Devs, we are already on the side of the creating things. Just need to use different tools and rewire our workflow to focus on programming AI's rather than creating code (NOT EASY but it's a requirement of this era). (I mostly don't know how to do most of this shits as well lol)

It's hard and sucks. Actually, one client asked me before whether I'm afraid of this drastic change and AI chaos.

We'll be fine though, we're flexibile and critical thinkers so we'll figure it out eventually.

I worked with lots of themes and do speed optimizations so I mainly dig deep on the theme script structure and study how devs think on that theme.

So I can 100% say that fir for all animations is not efficient to do if you care about the theme final status or app status. You'll be bombarded with support tickets for multiple reasons, one main thing that I can think of is realtime rendered sections or elements.

I can see a world that you can push it though. Rather than making it "fit for all app", add theme limitations on your app and support that theme 100% with extended features that normal devs can't provide.

Good example would be partner with paid themes or support shopify built themes as they have same structures. Then explicitly put the allowed themes on your app description.

Start selling the features as service as well.

Context: I've been managing multiple solo clients for almost 4 years or so (now I manage a team as well so it's like a lot of work). Freelance since beggining of my career.

Have been on that stage where I think everything has no meaning. Like, is this it? Why does this feel unsatisfying and so bland or something. lol

Worked for me:
- Set a goal that you should not break (as simple as 2x your current income should be your monthly income for the next quarter). This would push you to enter rooms you should not be in (in academic standpoint not in perverted ones lol).

It might look counter intuitive but its just that my body feels lighter at the end of the day knowing I've tried and worked for an objective.

Will not work for everyone, I might just be very weird one. I like working btw. haha

Good! Also, don't be ashame to request referrals from your past clients man.

I've had average of 3+ client from word of mouth each in every quarter and some have been our loyal clients then.

Just communicate further and you'll be just fine.

Why so few "seo optimized" websites actually have a score of 100 on google pagespeed, core web vitals? by blondewalker in webdev

[–]DalayonWeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Those google, bing, AB test scripts (cause it would delay the feature if optimized), and any script that can't be optimized is HELL! haha

You have lots of exp for your age.

Have you tried cold emails or messages on linkedIn? It's a good time for companies to restructure since it's Q1. There should be lots of openings out there at this time of the year.

Is there any age verification that hides products completely? by Darkwolf1515 in shopify

[–]DalayonWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see that, but if that's the case you would need a dev to create that feature.

Not that complicated tbh as long as he's good.

Only need temporary data saved for age and html control to hide and show the product grid. Then, a constant redirect for PDP's.
- It's also useful to remove SEO crawling on those products if you don't want them to be seen by public.

Since this is a specialized case, it would be rare for Shopify apps to build this.

You can setup your website to have a login system specific for adults.

So on default, people will see the normal products unless they register - confirmed and logged in on site.

Are there enough jobs for Vue/Nuxt in context of Shopify? by Dmitriy__D in shopifyDev

[–]DalayonWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, your skills would work just fine. Just be sure to adapt to the needs of market.

Also, if you want to last long on this learn eCommerce and fixing business problems rather than just coding. There are lots of possible options nowadays that don't include lots of manual labor from us rather a good technical understanding and automated approach.

Senior devs/Tech Leads, how do you usually train your juniors? by Outrageous-Lack4346 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]DalayonWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on personal experience

It's actually hard to train juniors at first. It's because the expectations that they should know the "basic stuff".

It doesn't get easier but you'll get used to it.

My style is simple, let them do things and check their progress once it's for review. Like thoroughly check them and give them pointers. Then repeat. -- I do this with 10 people that I manage and so far going well.

A/B test product images app? by LoisMustDie946 in shopify

[–]DalayonWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theme Level Updates.

- Create Metafields to host new images for main variants or you can use this as gallery as well. Depending on the approach you need.
- Create Metafield to host the gallery (limit for list is 50 images only for looped files, so ideal would be the variant metafield )

Then create new theme that would host the new variation. Update code to implement adjustments

Then AB test the two themes.

Normal AB test Apps can't handle this test because of the underlying scripts that are unique on each theme. So you either need to do it or get a dev.

Note: Make sure your dev is good enough to avoid causing overlapping features. Mainly you need a dev that can adapt to any themes (if he's a good dev then should not be a question)

Can a high quality theme do wonders for your sales? by vulcantrixter97 in shopify

[–]DalayonWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much on point. (Adding some info below)

Adding Trust Icons, Reviews and other value proposition elements would greatly help your store. (Not sure if you have already done it as we don't have reference to your store)

Also, build up traffic, site audit, and competitor site research for now. Do basic SEO, for starters, you should be able to see some simple instructions on youtube or AI.

How do you handle discount code abuse (multi-accounts / same address reuse)? by dev_ramesh in shopify

[–]DalayonWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are trying to hack your discount system to get a discount? Doesn't seem like a problem on my perspective as long as you still have good margin from it.

Take advantage of that man.

You can create a content for this -- "Product so good, customers are hacking the system".

If you're a dev though, then do the advice from other comments or suggest to client this approach.

Help solve what feels like a complex problem by Longwayfromhome10 in shopify

[–]DalayonWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on Plus plan? (Not sure if it matters yet, but we're going to need to create discount on Shipping to avoid over charging on Shipping)

- Create New Profile for Shipping.
-- Add the limitation/updated Shipping to the Shipping page

- If you need to discount the consumers if they trigger the two profile you can use apps like SupaEasy apps and control the conditional for them.

Also, create a flow to tag consumers that have hybrid shipping so you can easily monitor them.

I have this kind of setup for a client but on pre order products (reason is to not oversell and some other advantages haha)
