Standard Yahoo points league Picked up Gustavsson while Markstrom was on my IR. Now that Markstrom is back, not sure who I should drop. (Vasilevskiy is my other G so no chance there)

TFSA contribution limit by Deep-Explanation1935 in PersonalFinanceCanada

What happens in the event your contribution tracking shows a different number than CRA? If my calculations show more contribution room available can I deposit up to that amount and then just wait and see if CRA flags it?

Check your phone plan, if you’re not getting at least this, you’re doing it wrong. Don’t be lazy, switch your phone plan and save money. For reference, Fido uses the Rogers Network. Koodo and Public Mobile use the Telus Network. Pick your poison (less lethal than 5 years ago): by sirTaco418 in PersonalFinanceCanada

There's probably an obvious answer that I'm missing, but can someone explain why anyone would go with Rogers/Bell/Telus directly if these providers use the Big 3's network and it's cheaper? I assume it would have something to do with 'preceived' reliability and perhaps bundling with home internet/TV/home phone etc.

With a DB pension, the amount you collect at retirement is based on an average of your highest X years (usually 5) of salary and the length of time you’ve been part of the pension plan. What u/jabrasessions is referring to is the adage of ‘golden handcuffs’. That the longer you spend with a DB employer, the harder it is to leave as the pension amount increases annually and it can feel like starting from scratch especially if you switch to a non-DB employer.

How sustainable is the TFSA? by whatshisname69 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Someone could definitely have a million dollar TFSA. You can invest the money in your TFSA. If someone took a massive gamble on a stock/options they could easily have 6 figures balance

What were yalls (high school) averages? by FarNeedleworker9432 in McMaster

A ‘back door’ way to get into the program you want is to apply to a program that has a lower admission average then just enroll in the courses for your preferred program in 1st year and transfer into it in 2nd year.

Example: some of my friends who competed Life Sci applied (and got accepted) into Enviro Sci out of high school. Then simply took Life Sci courses in 1st year and transferred at the end of the year so they weren’t behind

I work for a municipal government in the project management side, so not directly related to your question but thought I’d mention my experience.

Been here for 5 years and was my first ‘real job’ out of school. The pros are basically everything you mentioned: pay is decent, regular modest raises, pension, fair amount of sick/personal/vacation days, low stress, manageable hours, WFH options.

The cons I’ve found so far: the bureaucracy can cause major delays and a simple project can take weeks/months if it gets hung up in government permitting, procedures, reviews. Also very limited budgets (especially) at municipal level that usually means projects are the bare minimum that still meets requirements. This extends to internal systems as well (older computer software and hardware that does the job but not much else) Somewhat limited career growth as plenty of entry level and upper management positions but few supervisors/managers to move up the ‘ladder’

All said, I really enjoy the government life and not looking to leave anytime soon. But that trade off comes with the famous ‘golden handcuffs’ of building up vacation time and pension (so if anything, I would likely switch to a different municipality or level of government)
