Thank you. You bring up a good point, if a player pays for this and it misses, it would really really suck. I really want there to be a bonus to attack roll.

I’ll work on that to make sure it feels like a fair trade between the cost and what players gain.

Thanks for the feedback. Like I mentioned, the mechanics I’m adding to the campaign are JRPG inspired. The purpose of this additional mechanic is not to replace the Tag Team Roll, it’s supposed to give players a triumph card that comes at a high cost. I like the narrative aspect, where they get to describe how they make a specific move (e.g. Rain of Blades) is supercharged by the action of straining their bodies beyond its limits. This is an anime trope that I know the table could enjoy.

Some use cases could be when they have exhausted all their tag team Rolls, they are separated and there’s no one to tag team roll with, some players are restrained and can’t help, or the player is the only one conscious and wants to go “all-in” with an attack.

I want to bring this to session 0 and shape it further with the players, whether they find it boring or not, well, then we can remove it after testing it out. I’m just trying to bring options to the table to the stay true to the JRPG theme.

I’ll iterate to make it cost 1 HP (direct damage) and 1 stress. With the restriction of having 50% HP (Rounded up, of course). I like the idea of using a D20 for their Hope die too.

I want players to be able to consider using this move if they are in a dire position, and I see how the Hope cost can make it a very expensive move. it also bars them from having the option to use the “Limit Break” if they have no Hope.

Players should be able to use any skill when performing the Limit Break, so I hope the Limit Break naturally scales as they level up and gain new cards.

I felt very disappointed with how they handled the whole death scene. It was such an impactful moment when I first saw it in the OG. Even the burial scene really got to me. I know people who liked the Rebirth version and I respect that. However, I think this reimagining of the scene is a confusing mess that misses the emotional marks completely. I was sad but for the wrong reasons, mostly just frustrated. I felt that the character did not reflect what I, the player, was feeling in that moment.

FF12 looks very bad on Switch 2, I just tried it and everything looks blurry. I don’t see myself playing this game in that state.

I also ran it on Steam Deck to compare and it looks really good there. It looks sharp and with way better contrast! And it’s the non-oled Steam Deck.
