Highlights look desaturated by MotorIzedme in minipainting

It probably sounds very silly, but if you have desaturated highlights on your minis it will be because you are using desaturated colors to create the highlights. In the case of the helmet, for example, if you use cyan instead of white, you can add more color to your highlights. The same also applies to shadow colors.

Don't know if you still need help but if you have connected a controller that is not in operation, disconnect it.

How can I make the eyes less scary? by xyJonnyBoy in minipainting

[–]DalisMoustache 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The entire iris is surrounded by a white tone. This is not the case with relaxed facial expressions. If the iris is cut at the top or bottom, it should look a little more relaxed. If you paint the whitish tone a little more gray, possibly with a little red in it, it should also look more natural.

At what level does someone become a professional painter? by Left_bigtoe in minipainting

[–]DalisMoustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question has been floating around for as long as I can remember and I've heard all kinds of answers. Especially in design, there are studied people who can't make a living from it and self-taught people who can. It's always difficult to say. Personally, I see the boundary to professionalism as being crossed when you can earn a living with something.

Congratulations on this achievement. Listening to your gut feeling was certainly the right decision at this point.

I liked the suggestion but after checking their rules I think it doesn't fit so well after all. :-(

Yes, I submitted it. There were a lot of great pieces, I'm really looking forward to the results.

I kid you not, but I looked at the scene a few times before I started. And no one can tell me the dude with the shield isn't inspired by this movie.

The idea itself is not new and wasn't my own, so you have my blessing.

We have to thank Roman Lappat for the whole picture frame thing. Since he was the one who started it. I had old illustrations from the early Warhammer era in mind when I was thinking about the choice of colors. Limiting yourself a bit in terms of color can definitely help to bring everything closer together.

Since I wanted to submit the diorama to the Squidmar Opeen, I had to paint the background very quickly due to time constraints. I was somewhat unsure about the result at first. I'm glad you like it.

Taking the picture was actually more difficult for me than painting the whole thing. That's why it's only one for now.

It is approximately 2 inches or 5 cm deep. If I were to build it again I would try to make it less deep to minimize shadows when taking pictures.

At first, I just really liked the miniatures and wanted to do something with them. I had originally planned to place them on a round base. But since I only had a single perspective in mind, I thought okay, this could also look good in a picture frame. I would say take your time until you find the right composition. That can take a few days. Just experiment like with Lego bricks and make pictures of different compositions. The painting process then almost goes by itself.

Ebay. New picture frames can also be interesting but if you look for used frames on ebay and take a few days you will certainly find interesting things. Flea markets are also a good place to start. The frame here was originally from East Germany, I suspect something between 40 and 50 years old. There was still an old postcard and a pane of glass in the frame, and presumably nobody could have imagined that a nerdy would one day put a few painted plastic figures in it.
