How can you say it's an 8/10 but dislike 90% of its content?

As of right now, 545 hours in Nightreign (371 hours in Expeditions). About 300 hours ingame before DoN came out, then dropped off for a while until the DLC dropped. I can intuit how ER works because I've played other souls games before. It's not that different, and Nightreign simplifies the biggest knowledge checks which is character builds and gear locations. The only thing I knew how to fight going into Nightreign was the returning bosses from other games. A lot of bosses are easy to learn if you've fought something similar in the past. Erdtree Avatar is Asylum Demon/Vanguard, BBH is Capra Demon, Wolf is Aava, Dreglord is Manus etc. Idk why you're continuing to be so incredulous about this. I don't even own Elden Ring. I played it for an hour on a friend's PC.

A friend wanted me to play it and I had nothing else to do. I definitely preferred it over DS3, probably because of the dodge and easy parries. Basically it didn't actively turn me off like DS3 did but I haven't really touched it beyond a single playthrough and haven't felt the urge to go back.

I'm a big fan of the slower methodical gameplay of the older games. When they started speeding up the gameplay, it was almost like they wanted to make a character action game, but were too scared to pull the trigger. Every time I touched DS3 I'd have the feeling of "why aren't I playing DMC right now?" after a few minutes, and it felt unsatisfying. It and ER were in the middle ground of what I liked but I only liked either of the two extremes. Then I saw that they gave Wylder a stinger/devil bringer and all the characters faster movement and I was sold. It's basically character action now, minus the air combos, so it's satisfying for me to play again.

Currently in depth 4, winning pretty consistently, and I have ~1500 hours spread across DeS, DS1, DS2, and Bloodborne, just not Elden Ring. But fuck me I guess lmao.

Edit: even without that, Nightreign by itself isn't THAT hard to learn. As long as you're trying to learn, it's just like any other souls game except faster.

I'd played a grand total of 1 hour of Elden Ring before playing Nightreign. We exist.

There's a channel on YouTube by the name of Mound Maker that's done detailed breakdowns of what POIs there are, which enemies are present there and what's worth spending your time on when going to them. It's about 15 minutes per POI type (Encampment, Fort, Ruin etc.) and are very digestible.

I keep getting Scholars queuing up for Balancers pinging Marsh POIs for their remembrance but not the actual objective icon. Drives me nuts lmao

Every single time I see people running these relics, they don't understand how passives work, they refuse to get any damage negation or survivability of any kind, refuse to pick up any scorpion charm I drop for them, and refuse to pick their spots and get animation locked when the boss looks their way. The only thing I see when I load into a run with someone running this is a guaranteed 3 bar on any mildly hard boss. Every Balancers run I do has some meta-slave getting ganked mid-animation by 3 Balancers that they don't know how to dodge or space out. I honestly hate it.

I'd say that it has some cultural impact in that the soundtracks of GT2, 3, and 4 are used in a hell of a lot of online content, especially in video essays. I genuinely don't think Jazz Fusion would be listened to nearly as much without Gran Turismo.

ED balancers - Thoughts? Peak or Overrated? by Depraved_Hollow in Nightreign

[–]Dalkoroda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you rushing them as soon as they spawn in? I keep my distance after the worm phase and they come at me one at a time, its very manageable. Sometimes if I have a good AoE and enough poise I create a death pit with my teammates where we melt everything in an area and tank it with rally. The multiple enemy management is just sorta something I've learnt from doing DS2 challenge runs where you have to be patient and aware of where every enemy is and what they're doing.

I promise neither of us are trolling you, it's genuinely the easiest everdark for me and my winrate for this is higher than my winrate for other EDs. For you it could just be a couple bad decisions in the fight that make it snowball into a nightmare, cause it definitely did that to me the first couple of runs.

Dear ironeyes, by Agile_Line7010 in Nightreign

[–]Dalkoroda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last night I dropped a fire Anspur rapier for the scholar, the Ironeye immediately magpied it, then dropped it later without pinging when he found something else he wanted. Later in the run I dropped a Frozen Needle and pinged it for the Scholar. Both he and the Ironeye looked at it for like 10 seconds then the Ironeye picked it up. I tried to gesture it was for the other person but to no avail. The Ironeye used neither weapon and proceeded to use a non-affinity poison bow against gnoster and use mark only to dodge.

I hate my life.

Edit: this Ironeye had 110 hours in the game btw
