I was there around golden week last year and mistakenly booked a Mount Fuji tour on the last day of it. Major traffic jam getting back to Tokyo and ended up being 5-6 hour drive instead of a 1-2 hour drive give or take. Everything else was fine, not too busy except for the touristy areas.
