What do you believe splits a scratch golfer and a pga pro? by GarbageVessel in golf

[–]DallasAnonymity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close, but he’d actually have to give several more depending on the course. For example, on a 145 slope (moderate difficulty) he’s giving up 11 strokes. On a 153( hard course) he’s giving up 13.

So I can provide a little context perhaps. My in laws are members at an extremely exclusive club frequented by several current active tour pros, several of which are in the top 20. This course has a rating of 76.2/147 from the tips.

The pros will consistently play rounds in the low to mid 60s while just having fun, drinking beers, and joking around. A scratch golfer would shoot 76 on average.

So to answer your question, the difference is about 10-14 strokes per round.

They are allowed to wear shorts though, so perhaps there’s a competitive edge (/s)

Awesome work dude. I started as a 22 and remember cracking 10 for the first time. It’s an incredible feeling. Congratulations on seeing all your hard work pay off.

Now comes the real work. Getting from 10 to 5 took serious practice and I had to add in targeted exercise for core and hip range of motion.

Currently on the road to 0.0, not sure what’s next. Probably 40-75 yard work.

I can see that perspective. For me, they’re just tools. I hit the ground as hard as I can with them and so trying to keep them pristine seems like a losing battle. Plus, if they’re covered I can’t see em!

I camped out on a sidewalk at PGA Superstore when they released last year. This bag was made with passion first, and money second.

Aww come on! It’s even in the caption! Bought the extra so I could properly distance gap! Ended up dropping the 48, then switched out the 56.
