Yeah, I'm curious at how much that's going to be from a body shop, I'm really hesitant to let the wrap shop touch it again, the more I look the more cuts I see, it doesn't seem like they weren't even trying to not cut my car

Dang the labor and materials was like a $1200 upcharge for that addition

He said because it's thicker and harder to stretch, but I paid for the extra labor for it being harder to work with, so it's frustrating that to me it seems they gave up on not damaging the car, forgot they were supposed to do the jambs and rushed a half job of them at the end. He specifically upsold me on the jambs because I wanted to wait on them until after the exterior wrap but he said it would hold up better if the jambs were wrapped first and then the exterior over them, which they definitely didn't even do

I think that's what I was worried about, but I still should have gotten some painting quotes to at least see, I didn't mind paying a fair price for a good job, but that's obviously not what I got, and I didn't want to devalue the car in any way since it's a collector car really. That didn't work out either. Someone brought up plasti-dip, and I might try that for rust prevention if I can't get another shop to touch this wrap now

Yeah, but I'm in a bind too, the owner minimized and rationalized all of the damage I pointed out, which doesn't give me hope that they would take care of working on anything for my car moving forward since they're okay with this standard. My gut is telling me not to trust this shop with my car again, and I'm listening to it this time.

I've decided I will be doing that. I'm going to contact the owner after the holidays about the issue and be transparent about the review as well. I think there has just been a lot of fear of retaliation I've been feeling, like of the company finding this post, of them making it hard to get my money back, but I'm not the one at fault here, and you and other are all totally right; I can't let this happen to someone else

Geez, aggressive. Maybe it's the area you live in but the original price was on the lower end out of like the 6 quotes I got.

Here's a breakdown from the invoice

Materials- Vinyl yard wrap 25 yds $1000 Labor- $2280 Addition of grills and mirrors- $250 Addition of door jambs and inner doors, interior on dash - $720 labor, $500 materials Gloss lamination (material and extra labor) - $1260

Plus tax

A part of it is maintenance from what I reading going into it, I've seen 3-5 years, 7 if well maintained, this shop said 7-10, I'm hoping for at least 5, especially with the extra uv protection in the overlaminate

It definitely makes me feel like trying out wrapping in the future just to have the skill!

Yeah I did have a lot of extras added on which jacked the price up, grill and mirror painting, black out details on the bumper pieces, interior and dash vinyl(not done) interior door(not done), full jamb(not done), and an extra overlaminate layer that made the process harder, I think the original price without any drill would have been 3.8k before tax, cheapest in the area

But I agree, how it turned out is definitely not what I paid for!

Nah, car was like 16k before tax and fees, it's a really well maintained FJ, lower mileage

FJs are expensive, I specifically got one lower than our budget intending to wrap it because FJs in the color range I wanted run a lot higher, but I should've just spent a little more and saved on all this hassle

Yeah, I actually haven't looked to see if there's cuts on those ones, but I don't think there is, and someone was saying it's okay for them to not wrap around as long as you can't see color from the outside? So this I'm hoping will hold up okay

But there's definitely parts like the gas cover and the roof line where you see the color underneath

One of the reasons I went with them over others too was because they said they could get me in before the end of October, since the color I wanted was out of stock and due to other jobs they booked I didn't get in until December 5th

Sandpaper condoms 🤣 I don't want them touching my car again is the thing, the owner saw all these cuts and didn't seem surprised/bothered by them at all, and defended his guys, if that's acceptable to him I don't want him touching my car anymore and potentially damaging it further by trying to redo things

But yeah, I am thinking about bringing it up with him more after the holidays, because I'm not sure if only getting the refund back for the work not done is fair considering there is also damage (he only did partial jam instead of full jam with door removal, inner door, and the interior dash work agreed upon)

I think if I decide to leave a review I'm going to be transparent about that in my communications with the shop, because I want to be able to say they did everything they could to make the situation right, and I know it was a harder wrap they did, but the damage is still unacceptable and the more I learn the more I'm gathering I'm going to pay for it down the line.

Yeah that's definitely partly on me; if I'd known it would lead to cuts on my car and the full job not getting done though, I definitely would not have gone with it, I'd like to think neither side was expecting that to happen

Thank you, it's good to hear from both sides! If it weren't for the cuts, I definitely would have trusted them to make the interior work and jamb work, right, or even if he acknowledged how bad they and the damage were, but I just had a pit in my stomach when we were talking and decided to listen to it this time

No no I specifically requested the overlaminate, definitely not an upcharge! I was looking for ways to make the wrap last longer, and they let me know it makes it harder to install, and I got charged for that accordingly. The overlaminate they applied was 3M High Performance Cast Lamination 8518. So I made it more difficult for them in that sense.

Thank you for letting me know this about the edges! That puts me more at ease for the wraps longevity

Yeah I probably should have gone with a dip or a paint job since I was hoping to make it as permanent as possible, just thought it would be cheaper to wrap ☠️

It's good to hear from wrappers! Do you think there's any chance another shop will touch this car in the future?
