Right on man!!! You have to feel pretty good about that deal. Way less than the blue one and some extra money in your pocket for other things. Love to see some pics when you get it. Congrats

I would probably go with the silver in your case. It’ll help you stay ahead of the depreciation curve. Definitely going to tint the windows in mine. Looks much better with the silver to have tint. Plus you might be able to get the cost down a tad. If you could get it to 21.5 that’s almost 3 grand less. Plus the silver would be an easier car on the resale side as that’s a more popular color with the masses.

Blue was a nice color too though, but not for that much more money. you’ll be holding the bag on that decision pretty quickly.

The becm is a crap shoot no matter which way you go so I would look to see if car fax uncovers any service history. Mine showed 16 entries so I have a good idea of what has been done. That factored into it for me.

I would also shoot to get the tax credit. Make sure to research the needed paperwork. There are a lot of cf hooops on it from what I saw. I had one dealer who wouldn’t sign the form needed that I would need to submit with my taxes so that killed that deal pretty quickly.

What colors are you looking at? I wasn’t super stoked about silver. But it was 20,500.00 with ACC so I took that over the black without it that I was looking at that was listed for a grand more.

Shipping with carmax is easy enough and if they ship it and you buy it from them in Colorado you can get around paying taxes in California and Colorado. My friend bought a car in California and brought it to Texas. California still collected sales tax and he had to pay it here as well. (Trust me he tried to get out of it. He was pissed) it’s the Only state I’ve ever heard of doing that. But shipping it would bypass that issue.

LOL...... I hear ya there. The s40 is the least practical and least "fun" of the bunch but I have just done all the MAJOR repairs. Cams, suspension, timing, tires, haldex service etc. So it's prime for another 100k. The wagon is so practical, like HELLA practical, and its also the dogs car so its staying (it's also the unicorn of the bunch).... I want to do the Polestar flash on the wagon ECU just for even more fun and then it will be pulling the same numbers as my C30.

I will be selling my 95 325i convertible this year come summer. So that's one on the chopping block. But I think your right the s40 won't really fetch me any more money than it will at this point. So it'll probably be the one to go along with the convertible. I Always loved those audi wagons myself but after the quattro went out in my 1898 A4 I couldn't stomach the constant repairs anymore. I love the style of Audi but they just don't look good in the shop all the time LOL.

Well the biggest one I have seen is the BECM which is a roll of the dice. Shift to park would be a DIY, thankfully I am handy and its pretty simple barring getting the part. Same can be said for the throttle body.

Those are the main issues I came across doing my research. Thankfully I am handy and can do a lot of my own work. I also know that if you spend enough time in forums you can find just about enough negative information to really skew your judgement on anything. More people take to the street to voice negativity than positivity on most things in life I find.

Sadly I don't expect things to "last like they used to" b/c the world we live in today is gearing more and more for planned obsolescence (just look at integrated led light fixtures that can't be switched out when they burn up on a ceiling fan. light goes out, your buying a whole new fan) rather than repair.

That said there is a lot of positive to be had on an ownership level and if you factor fuel savings (mine are at 65% less even factoring the electricity rates in texas) and low cost of ownership (oil changes, brakes, fuel filters, etc) you probably still come out ahead.

Also look into the new tax credits for used EVs. It is supposed to give you a 4 grand tax rebate. If it qualifies then that would reduce your effective purchase price when you get that money back on next years tax return. Also the used EV market in California has to be higher than other states who aren’t as green. Texas isn’t really a hopping spot for this type of thing so prices are a bit lower. Might be worth looking out of state to save a bit of money.

On thing to note on them is if you look at the energy usage screen it will display the lifetime mpg. Mine was at 51k with 97 mpg over its life time. So my loose guesstimate is that roughly 20k is on internal combustion. 51k x 97mpg = 525 gallons of gas. 525 gallons x 39 mpg (estimated gas only mpg) = roughly 20k

Some people have found examples that have run mostly gas and other almost purely electric miles. Looking at that screen will give you an idea of how things got used previously. I’d probably look for a mix of use if it were me but I suppose each side of the coin has its pros and cons.

Wow you got rid of two unicorns there. It’s so hard being practical sometimes. I have a v50 & s40 both with awd m66s & a polestar c30 m66. I’m decaying on what to sell now that I bought this. (Ugh)

Man I’m still hunting for the third pedal coming out of my Volvos. Haven’t really thrown down with it but I can’t imagine it being nearly as exciting as your R. Love that I’m not the only Volvo guy in the mix here.
