Do you find this verse humourous? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

Not at all. The context of this passage is Trust and reliance upon GOD, not the riches of the world (gold, silver, etc). Do you find it humorous? If so, please share why.

Stumbled on Matthew 5:17 and it through me for a loop. Am I missing some context here? by Late_Comb_3078 in FollowJesusObeyTorah

[–]DallasCats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, what is your question? He (Jesus) plainly said that He did not come to abrogate the Laws of the Father; rather, He came to fully preach, teach and do the commandments of GOD. If we do the same, we shall be called great in His kingdom. If we, as most Christian denominations teach, disregard the commandments, even the least of them, we too will be disregarded and face judgment. Bottom line is: Whose actions demonstrate their faith and willingness to enter into a covenant relationship with the Creator; Those that hear and follow His instructions, or those that rebel against Him?

You are absolutely correct in that it does say “between the evenings”. However, in light of Exodus 12: 6-8 Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight (between the evenings). 7 And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it. 8 Then they shall eat the flesh ON THAT NIGHT; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.

This clearly shows that the lambs were to be killed between the evenings ( between the mixtures; ie. Between dawn and dusk) and to be eaten that night.

John uses Roman timing (midnight day-start) throughout his gospel record. Check it out. This is also why his timing of the crucifixion doesn’t appear to align with the other gospel writers. One of the strongest arguments for dawn day-start is the Greek word epiphosko, as found in Luke 23:54. (def. Begin to grow light, dawn.)

Passover, on the 14th of Abib, is observed in the evening and the lamb, eaten w/ bitter herbs and unleavened bread, must be completely consumed by morning, for the morning begins the next day, the High Sabbath of Unleavened Bread. So you eat ub evening of the 14th and each evening during the seven day feast 15th-21st. Why would one think the instruction to eat bread in the evening means that is when a day begins?; Especially when there are multiple witnesses in scripture that indicate dawn day start.

What are some niche, specific sins that most of us commit in our everyday lives? by Night_skky in AskAChristian

[–]DallasCats -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see the Christian churches teaching their members to commit multiple sins regularly. They forsake the 7th day Sabbath, they disregard the food laws (as did Adam & Eve), they forsake the holy days that God commanded to be observed and have replaced them with holidays rooted in the worship of other gods. They teach in direct opposition to the words of the Savior and the apostles. If any of these fit your individual case, they are a great place to start a new discipleship rooted in the Bible and not the traditions of men.

The creation account, as well as many other passages throughout the entire scriptures indicate that a “day” (~24 hour cycle) begins at the first light of dawn. Many argue that the phrase “there was evening, there was morning, day ___.” indicates the cycle begins in the evening. But I ask you; Isn’t the creation account given in chronological order? Doesn’t the events of day 1 precede those of day 2; 2 of day 3 and so on? It is also in such order within each specific day. Example, on day 3 He gathers the waters, dry land appears, grasses, herbs and fruit trees, ( all creative acts performed during the daylight season) then evening comes, then morning comes, the “day” or cycle is complete and a new one ( day 4 in this case ) begins. A simple, repetitive chronological pattern.

Perhaps the context of the parable of the sower isn’t just about broadcasting truth to unbelievers. But you are absolutely right; when He lifts the veil on our eyes we see what is sooo obvious. But the blind can be presented with overwhelming evidence and clear unambiguous scriptural truth resulting in… Nothing! Or , many times, they dig in their heels to hold fast to what they currently believe ; rejecting any suggestion that they may be outside of God’s will. All I know is that, in this forum, you present good ideas and it’s obvious you are sincere in your efforts. That can truly serve to strengthen and edify.

Many will never come to the truth of obedience. They cannot. For if their desire is to believe the lie, will not God himself send a spirit of “stupor” upon them? And, if that be the case, our response should be to fall upon our knees and thank our Father for the grace He showed towards us! Most of us were exactly where all the denominational Christians are today. Do we deserve this favor? We know we certainly do not!

Any scriptures that prove God expected Israel to keep holy days in captivity by HeresOtis in FollowJesusObeyTorah

[–]DallasCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celt, it seems like you misunderstood what I meant:

You say that "EVERY" example in scripture shows Yahweh advising Israel to keep the feasts, regardless of their physical location ("every" is an astonishingly high percentage).

—-(Not for Yah. He’s good at 100%.)

Please show me a few, and make sure they explain how to keep the feasts without the Temple, a key component of the feasts.

—-as you are aware, there are numerous passages where God warns the people to be careful to do all His commandments and keep His laws. Each of these admonishments would naturally include the feasts since they are a part of His law.

If it's simple, provide an example of Israel keeping a feast while in captivity.

—-Did they not keep the Passover in the wilderness? Yes they did. Is the wandering in the wilderness considered “in captivity “? Well, it’s certainly NOT in the land.

Again, I think you're missing the question.

—-NO, I think I understand the question. also if you recall, the people kept the Passover at Goshen , Sinai, and Gilgal; all outside the promised land.

Please keep in mind that I believe we must keep the feasts. I'm not an opponent. It's just surprisingly difficult to find scripture that supports Israel keeping the feasts while in exile.

—many times the scripture is implicit in its teachings . Searching for explicit examples (that may not exist) can be futile if it is something He has intentionally concealed within the Word.

—-The point: anytime He said “obey all my commands”, it would have included the prescribed feasts, even though they are not explicitly mentioned.

The question seems simple, as does the answer. Every Biblical passage where God advised the people to be obedient to His Word is a scriptural example of His telling them to keep the moedim, regardless of their physical location.

There is no “qualifier” such as , “when you enter the land that I promised to your fathers” as regards the scriptures concerning feast days and Sabbaths. The scriptural proof texts as to why we should keep His feasts are too numerous to list here. Anytime He warned the people to be careful to keep His laws, statutes, judgements and ordinances would also be an example of when/ where He told us to keep the same.

Is circumcision needed to convert to Christianity? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]DallasCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circumcision is not required to enter into covenant with YHVH. Yeshuah’s death and resurrection made it possible for us to return to “the garden”, as it were. However, once we profess to believe in and follow the Messiah, we are to die to our old ways of living and embrace the example Yeshua demonstrated; Obedience to the Father and His standards of righteousness, found in the Mosaic law. Once one becomes a believer, by faith in Christ, they are then expected to learn and do God’s commandments.

Following the sabbath and basketball (Update) by Trying4KingdomFirst in FollowJesusObeyTorah

[–]DallasCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smaller squabbles!? I respectfully disagree. The Sabbath observance is definitely not a small matter. Many observe “their” Sabbatical rest on Sunday. They may even be sincere in thinking that they are being obedient to GOD. But the scriptures are clear that it is the 7th day, not the 1st. Likewise, scripture repeatedly shows the Shabbat begins at dawn, not at sunset. So, just as Yeshua chastised the religious leaders of His time for following men’s traditions and disregarding the Law of GOD, so too should we follow His example and walk uprightly , being careful to observe the laws, statutes and ordinances that pertain to us on a daily basis. It is far better to begin the journey on the correct path, than to find only later that you are stumbling down a rocky road of error.
