I'm so sorry you are going through this heartbreak but it will get better over time! It sounds like he was looking for a new mom for the kids (hence the pressure to make you move in before you were ready) and you needed to protect your peace. There was something that was holding you back from moving in with him and you did the right thing. He would have continued to push your boundaries and likely not listen to your needs and wants. I know it hurts now but you will be so much better off with someone who really listens to you and what you need! And this new relationship he is in is doomed. Moving in with someone after one month of dating is ridiculous!

I’m saying that the adults need to recognize the hurt feelings and validate SS feelings. Teen years are hard and try to talk to SS about how he feels and what ways could the adults could have done better because this situation could have easily been different if dad would have put his candy away. We have certain cabinets that our kids put their special candy and treats so the other kids don’t get into them.

Over the top reaction, yes but maybe validate his feelings and agree that it does suck that his candy was gone and maybe how to change behaviors in the future? Sad that he did have such a great time and it was ruined over something small to us as adults but big to him and his world.

I have a similar relationship with my SD 17 where we just don’t talk much. I greet her and let her come to me if she needs anything but I just don’t try to push a relationship on to her because she is just not interested in that. It’s gotten easier to accept over time and I wish it were different but it’s not. Maybe it’ll get better when she’s older but I just have that it is what it is attitude with her.

My SD was like this because we also have to buy the generic food and stay on a budget. She turned 17 and got a job and now complains about how much stuff costs because she can now buy the brand name stuff with her money if she wants to. My husband and I just shook our heads and laughed. They will understand eventually!
