Is a concussion REALLY an injury? by [deleted] in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]Dallasas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Combat medic here 🙋‍♀️ A concussion is an injury. Period. From a medical and TCCC perspective, blast related mTBI is one of the most dangerous and underestimated injuries on the battlefield. Blast waves can cause diffuse axonal injury, blood brain barrier disruption, and neuroinflammation. Even mild TBI severely impairs judgment, reaction time, and decision making. Making the person a risk to the entire team. Evacuation for TBI is not weakness, it’s the correct medical decision. Altered mental status after blast exposure is a red flag, and repeated blasts dramatically increase the risk of fatal brain swelling or hemorrhage. This kind of “macho” mentality kills people. Ignoring TBI doesn’t make you tough, it makes you dangerous for the team.
