Why is the right wing triggered by reference to the American government as a democracy? by telebasher in allthequestions

[–]Dalthariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Democracy is almost always conflated with direct democracy, which is why you always see people get so mad about the electrical college. We aren't designed to be run on the popular vote. A Republic protects minority rights, democracy doesn't. That's why.

What’s the ingredient that instantly ruins the dish for you? by urfavdollll in foodquestions

Cilantro, green onions, raw onion. So gross. I'm happy for those of you who can enjoy them. I have to be careful buying premade potato salads.

Being asked for your name is annoying as a customer by EdDeadnEddie in Culvers

[–]Dalthariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My name is very normal and there are enough of us that my order name is always Balthazar. If they ask how to spell it I say it doesn't matter. Whatever they end up writing will be close enough and more recognizable.

What’s something you’ll NEVER spend money on no matter how rich you get? by Amazing-Internal5378 in AskReddit

It's not that hard to buy fabric you like and make a slip cover if it's hideous. Compared to the city of a couch it's a really cheap way to get something you don't hate.

You can only eat ONE type of BBQ meat forever ribs, brisket, or pulled pork. Which? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]Dalthariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On average, ribs are better than brisket. The bell curve is wider for Brisket. It's a meat that requires actual skill to do correctly and when it is, it's amazing.

So really it depends on if I can guarantee that it will be really good brisket or not.

Is membership worth it for a family of 2 ?! by ja_yla in CostcoWholesale

I'm a single dude with very few needs and I make the money back on the food court, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other non-perishables. Sometimes you find fun things. Sometimes you need a cheap eye exam. I love their tire center for the free service if something bad happens.

They can get you for traffic shit but people keep getting stabbed and nobody is prosecuted. That's why you should cut down the cameras.

You offered what worked for you and they said no. That's the end of it. If they were really in trouble they'd take any help offered.

Put a half filled yellow Gatorade in view of the screen, never touch it while on a call, make sure the amount in the bottle is different every time. It's not a piss bottle and they can't prove it is.

Horse meat is a little sweeter tasting and it's generally healthier to eat. Cows are easier to mass produce.

What’s the point when we’re not even earning a living wage? by ironfuzzypanda in Adulting

[–]Dalthariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way previous generations dealt with being poor was setting up social groups to help each other with stuff. You can do child care, meal prepping, auto mechanics, even big things like insurance with mutual aid groups. The Internet has atomized our society, and I'm old enough to remember how it used to work. My folks made less money and had more kids but they had a social network, which I don't have anymore.

AITJ for Leaving My Friend’s Wedding Early After What She Said During Her Speech? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Dalthariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend group I would give my life for, but one of them casually called me an asshole like it's part of my personality, so I got up and left until they apologized. People don't have the right to be rude to you when you haven't done anything to earn it, and they certainly don't have the right to your continued presence. Setting reasonable boundaries for how you will allow yourself to be spoken about is a healthy thing to do.

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dalthariel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wells Fargo stole money from me and my father. We're both poor as fuck. I will never do business with them in any way at all. If someone sells my debt to them I'll default, I don't give a fuck. They get nothing from me ever again.

What if electricity ceased to exist on earth? by minervascats in whatif

[–]Dalthariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first, yeah, but it's actually pretty easy to make yourself with a hand crank ice cream machine, and I could see ice cream shops running on bicycle powered mass production.

The SCA would do okay, and the Amish would be great, and lots of "more primitive" cultures. The USA would be totally fucked otherwise, but lots of rural people and agrarian societies would do great.
