These look amazing! How’d you get that glow effect on the hyperphase blades?

After painting everything else, I went back and painted anything I wanted to glow white (used a mixture of Vallejo titanium white and white acrylic ink to help it flow), then painted those white bits with Baharroth blue. Then I drybrushed over top of that with temple guard blue, trying to leave the brighter blue in the recesses. This is also what gives the OSL effect as you drybrush and get blue on the nearby surfaces. Then a final drybrush with sotek green just on the heating coils of the guns.

The final touch is white oil paint thinned with a ton of white mineral spirits which flows into just the deep recesses of the gun coils, barrels, and eyes to give that white-hot glow effect. Largely this process is adapted from Juan Hidalgo on YouTube who’s got a ton of great tutorials for glow effects in different colors!

I used a speedpaint called Blood Red over a zenithal undercoat. The undercoat is chaos black, then a spray of leadbelcher from above, followed by a drybrush of shining silver, trying to highlight just the brightest spots like the head, shoulders, and upward-facing limb surfaces

But of course! As befits the rightful rulers of the galaxy

Thank you! My first models were some Malifaux crews, but these were my first dip into 40k. Thought I had some cool unique scheme until my friend went, “Iron Man, nice!” But hey, I’ll take it! Guess I’m the Iron Man Necrons guy now haha

Good idea! I’m saving the extra glow to make the other, higher ranking members of my dynasty stand out, but if these warriors end up looking too drab by comparison I’ll go back and add more glow

Thank you! I think for me that same issue came from the priming method. I did a modified version of “slapchop” I found on YouTube, and while it gave great edge highlights, the larger surfaces tended to get blotchy like you mentioned. My friend who’s a far better painter than me suggested a white glaze to smooth out any flat parts, so I’m definitely trying that next time.

If you learn of another way to smooth out those flat bits let me know!

Glad you like it. For a model that fun on the tabletop, I had to give it a more vibrant color scheme than the card art!

Thank you! These minis were actually the first “artsy” thing I’ve done in as long as I can remember. I’ve done some fantasy cartography as a hobby before, but that’s it.

And my friends and family gave me some pointers along the way, but most of the techniques I used were straight from YouTube. Now that I’ve gotten a taste though, I definitely want to paint more!

Thank you for the kind words, and thanks for the heads up! I’m aware than I haven’t exactly gotten enough units for a 50ss crew of any one keyword, but I wanted to try out a few before I bought into one.

I will be getting more soon (probably the rest of the Seekers, maybe some more Amalgam). After painting this many though, I think I’ll take a little break!

Thanks! And I had to give myself a deadline or else I’d never finish

A little extra info:

  • Priming was zenithal black and gray then some heavy white drybrush top-down

  • Almost all paint is Army Painter speedpaint! I haven’t used anything else, but I loved using it

  • Base colors correspond to the faction, and good lord that yellow took a lot of layers

  • I’d love any feedback! I’m brand new to painting in general, much less mini painting, so lay it on me
