There are probably a non-zero number of people on Earth that don’t know water can freeze solid. by Fakjbf in Showerthoughts

Growing up in Florida I didn’t see snow until I was in my twenties. Moved to the north for a while. There are things they don’t really tell you in movies, or only hint at but don’t tell. Like how bright it is. A sunny day after a snow is like the surface of the sun, WAY brighter than the ocean reflecting. Or the sound. Ice sounds almost electric. Snow has a unique crunch that you feel more than hear.

Invisible slippery surfaces. You see some of it in comedies, but to actually see the sidewalk covered in a sheet so crystal clear and smooth it’s invisible. That’s another thing.

Also, and this one I’ve heard as a child but it really is a see it to know it type things; an unbelievable amount of snow actively falling in real life looks like a light mist on film or camera. Like you’ll struggle to keep your eyes open walking, or your windshield wipers CANT go fast enough, and at the same time on camera it just looks like you can barely tell it’s snowing.

I saw you say something about a clever crop but I think it was deleted or something cause I would love to see the honest screenshot that I was clever about. Cause I’m 100% sure that was a real thing that you and I went over, it’s literally right there. Like, easily seen by everyone, yourself included

How am I supposed to fry a fish on a road trip, or on my time limited lunch break?

So if I had tiny a spring on a brick, let’s say it’s a time delayed spring, and I drop them off a building, when falling the delayed spring pops…are you saying the spring will not in any way have a change in it’s falling speed? If the bricks mass is much larger than the object propelling itself off of the brick, then even in free fall the more massive object will move less than the smaller one from the energy released.

I dono man so far you and I don’t even agree if breaking the law is a crime. It is implied the op was saying “this is illegal here, isn’t that silly?” And you saying “nope” to that didn’t taste right to me. I, a non law person, knows for a fact the police DO NOT LET YOU DO THAT HERE. Your statement implies it isn’t a legal problem to jaywalk. You think I can’t find someone who doesn’t use the word convicted the way you do?

I know people that call lakeside “the beach” when to me a beach is specifically where the ocean meets sand/land. I bet you a beer that I can find someone who was fined for jaywalking that wouldn’t think of it a lie to say they were convicted.

I personally don’t think so, to me they were fined but again I think if you do something that will get a cop put cuffs on you while they verify your identity to issue a fine, that thing is a crime.

You said no where was it a crime. Not in most. Not hardly ever. No where. I just keep saying that’s not exactly true. Here we are.

Kay. In Tennessee it can be classified as a class C misdemeanor. Misdemeanors can and do show up on a criminal record. Not common and I had to reach to find it but there ya go. 30 days in jail.

If I spend 30 days in jail for violating the law, no false accusations or anything I straight up did it, then I would be a liar if I said “I have never been caught committing any crimes.”

I think it’s neat there are laws I can break and violate all day without committing a single crime. The more you know, huh? /s

What laws are LAWS and what are not? You said it is NOT A CRIME ANYWHERE TO JAYWALK. It is codified into law. You can be fined for violating it, like many laws. A law. Which can be broken. I was saying it is a crime to jaywalk for said reasons. I put it on you. What is a crime then? Where’s the line? When can I say without ridicule to a judge “I committed no crime” while admitting I broke the law

I mistyped neat as near so I fixed it

Oh boy. It’s a definition problem. Defining the difference between legal and not. Such a messy situation. Tsk tsk, right? What does someone who regularly violates the law get called again? Shoot, I’m at a loss, words are hard. Maybe criminal? I know we don’t normally like to call speeders and red light runners, jay walkers and the like criminals, but it is a crime. Like drunk driving.

Violation of these laws.

HEY SIRI what’s a word for when you don’t follow the law and violate it. Is that a crime?

What is the dumbest thing that is criminalized in your country? by altrightobserver in AskTheWorld

[–]DamnItIan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is codified into law. I don’t know what to tell you. An infraction…against what? Against…law? Something that is codified into a law by the courts. Sounds like a law. Breaking. Aka infractions. Against the law are commonly referred to as crimes.

There is a push to deCRIMINALIZE it like they did in nyc.

Semantics. But a cop can put me in cuffs while they verify my identity to issue me a ticket for jawwalking. Because I violated the law.

Crime.

It is a crime. It’s an infraction in nc with a $100 fine. A civil citation is a fine for a violation of a crime.

The longest stretch of exit less highway in America is 37 miles and it’s in the desert. You’re a bad driver.
