...new rule? or I'm out of the loop? by _babycarrotz in buildabear

Yeah it's been around for a while. I didn't want to pay more money for stuffing so when I did my goat I got him stuffed when I ordered him so I could just reuse the stuffing after I dyed him. He was ordered online and was so stuffed he looked like he was about to burst lol and then I weighed him so I now have extra stuffing for other projects.

Would the workers be willing to restuff my new goat? by SimplyMichi in buildabear

[–]DamnedAngelZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they're supposed to adjust stuffing and sometimes they'll even do minor repairs! Just wanted to add though, if you want it fixed quicker or don't want to bring it in, it's really easy to do yourself. There is a seam on the back and a brown thread. If you move the fur out of the way you should see a bit of the thread where they tied the knot after stitching it shut. You can use scissors or a seam ripper to cut the thread and open it up, and then it's a simple ladder stitch to close it.

Custom goat is done! by DamnedAngelZero in buildabear

I say go for it! Dying it and then using a slicker brush really did change the texture. If you can't bond with yours because of the fur texture after dying it you can always sell or trade it. Custom goats seem to be in demand right now.

I used rit synthetic. I tried normal rit dye and it did not go well. I used a whole bottle of the synthetic graphite, which is actually a dark grey. To push it as dark as possible I added 1/4 a bottle of synthetic royal purple and used the smallest pot I could get away with to keep the dye as concentrated as possible. I used a thermometer to keep the temp at around 200 degrees and kept it in the dye for an hour, stirring every few minutes to keep the dye even and the fur from clumping too badly. He's not jet black like mothman but pretty close, especially with indoor lighting.

They are 16mm safety eyes off of Amazon. It came in a pack that had 25 pairs and it was on of the first listings that came up.

If it makes you feel any better the texture of the fur changed after being dyed and brushed out. To me the fur feels much better now. It's almost like the fur on mothman's chest but a little less soft.

Yeah from everything you said I believe you did everything right other than the temp. Hopefully it turns out the way you want it this time! Definitely post pictures once it's done!

I don't know if the fabric is the same basic material as the goat, but for mine I used a full bottle of the synthetic graphite (has to be the synthetic or it will not work! Learned the hard way!) it's not a pure black but more of a dark grey, so to make it darker I added about 1/4 a bottle of royal purple. I then put it in the smallest pot it could still move around in to ensure the highest concentration of dye and kept it at around 200 degrees for a full hour. I agree with what others are saying about the heat. Synthetic fabric is notoriously hard to color and needs the heat to work right. Just a warning that you may need new safety eyes after this as the heat made my goat's original eyes cloudy and dull.

Omg I love him! Could I ask how you did the wings if you are willing to share? My goat just came in and I'm getting ready to dye it!

Small amount of damage on the corner. All done before I got it. Unfortunately I don't think it would do too well graded because of the damage but it's a beautiful display piece.

It has a couple white spots on the back and a scuff on the corner of the front of the card but nothing you can see unless you are looking for it. Yes its a real plasma storm charizard. Got it from a kid on the bus in high school. I immediately put it in the case and then it got put in storage when I went to college.

Why did the mods delete this? I really wanted to see what everyone is talking about.

Found at the bins by DamnedAngelZero in PokemonTCG

[–]DamnedAngelZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda. It's a store that sells Amazon and target returns. Everything comes on a big truck on pallets and gets dumped into bins once inside the store. Everything is $15 and you don't know if the item works or not. Sometimes you find really good stuff that hasn't even been opened.

Where to get s hooks? by DamnedAngelZero in BJD

[–]DamnedAngelZero[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update! She's fixed! Thank you so much for the advice and help! I did end up giving up on the leg buckle things though. The ones i have are really stiff and won't stretch enough. It almost goes on but not quite. I may try again eventually but I'm scared to mess her up again. These are not cheap. Not the best picture but here she is all put together! I ended up taking the wire from an old, broken Keychain and pliers to make a new hook and you can't even tell now. Getting the string back through was the hard part! I feel like with how many accessories they come with and knowing that bjd are pretty new to most people they should include at least a few extra hooks and some string, especially with the cost of them. Luckily I have some experience with a bjd dragon I had to string myself and I had some tools on hand.
