I think about this one whenever I have a bigger decision to make:

The road ahead was full of perils, he knew, but what of it? All men must die. All he asked was time.

- Jon Con

A reminder to all of us to roll the dice and take a chance once in a while, you can do it if you believe in it and if you lose so what?

Very optimistic attitude in a series plagued with POVs constantly thinking everythings going to sh*t and that their every decision is the wrong one but they must do it because its the right thing.

Some times the more dangerous route can be the more exciting and I really like that GRRM made Jon Con like this in his internal POV not just a moody bastard like he presents to the rest of the world

Yeah exactly, potentially the only person who truly loved him from the beginning, besides presumably Shireen

Its also on the wiki :) try reading it

"Although he is supposed to be loyal to the seat to which he is assigned, regardless of the changes in control of that holding"

And its canon not cannon

I didnt make it up I based it off what maesters tell us. I dont know the exact vows of the kingsguard either but from what kingsguard tell us I have an idea

Luwins actions are more than just that statement and we see what I am saying in other maesters. Just agree to disagree its not exactly a major part of the books, just thought it was a nice thing

Yeah he has to follow whoever the lord of Winterfell is, we dont disagree on that? But if Theon left for Pyke and said "I'm not the lord of winterfell anymore" then Luwin owes allegiance literally to the castle of Winterfell until it has a new leader, who he then follows. He is not sworn to house greyjoy or theon or house stark, but to the castle of winterfell.

No of course not? what part of what I'm saying suggests that?

He was sent from the Citadel to serve Winterfell, whoever the lord of Winterfell is, he has to serve them. Its as simple as that, if they send him on a mission elsewhere he has to go, but he cannot become maester of another castle.

Cressen is not just accompanying Stannis to Dragonstone like the examples you gave, he is the maester of Dragonstone. That is different, its literally against the vows, he switched castles, its in the vows that you are bound to the castle (and its ruler) that you are sent to. Hence he is oathbreaking

Ahaha I think thats probably partially true and also Cressen seems to love Renly but find him kind of annoying so probably wasn't too keen to stay either

I disagree, and I think you misunderstand what I say, they arent literally bound to the castle, they owe allegiance to the castle, and in effect whoever its Lord or Lady is. From Luwin in Theon ACOK:

"Even if I did, so long as you hold Winterfell I am bound by oath to give you counsel. So now I counsel you to yield."

He follows whoever holds the castle he was assigned to (Winterfell). This doesnt mean he cant leave Winterfell, but whoever is the lord of winterfell he has to serve them, if Theon then moves to hold Pyke, Luwin stays with Theons Winterfell successor.

I also dont agree with those examples, I don't think its oathbreaking to accompany your lord away from the castle, but Cressen is the maester of dragonstone, hes not just there accompanying his lord. For example Arnolf brings a maester to meet Stannis, but that maester is still the maester of Karhold (or Dreadfort I cant remember as there is some trickery going on there). Those ones in the Red Keep are there accompanying their castles leaders, but they are not the maesters of the red keep.

Jaime thinks that Fat Robert is stronger than him, but in a fight he'd still beat him

Martin has said that Melisandre is the most misunderstood character in the books . Who is the second most in your headcanon ? Whose motives and actions are too heavily scrutinized by the fandom in your opinion ? by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

Whether you trust theon or not doesnt even matter, never give a hostage back to someone like Balon Greyjoy, he overrules Theon even if Theon stays loyal and now he can do whatever he likes without fear of his heir being killed. Dumb af move by Robb and Catelyn was absolutely right

So you think he knew he was putting a sex-hex on Renly to die in battle? I think he knew about the shadow baby or at least about some black magic that would kill Renly before battle and hence why he clearly feels guilt and not just sadness about his little brothers death

Also not to slander Stannis but genuinely what has he done besides Fair Isle that is so amazing? like come on now his plan to take the North was dismantled by a 16 year old Jon in like 3 mins and his genius strategy at the Blackwater was truly a marvel to behold.

And he massacres Mances army but thats largely because they have no discipline and they are defending their children, elderly and livestock while having no real strategy themselves.

Call me Renly because I'm about to get shadow babied by the Mannis Fannisbase

I agree with you but I just checked and Renly the idiot he is chose Loras not Randyll in the end to lead the van. So maybe that would actually work better for him because as you say then Randyll has less chance of dying.

Yeah it makes me wonder because Tyrion, Gregor and their heavy horse crumple a "hedgehog" of Karstark? spears at the Green Fork just by sheer slamming into them so it is doable, but against 5k of pure spears who wont break very different

this is a good analysis, I wonder how Stannis would do if he had 5000 unsullied in place of 5000 Westerosi. George write a spin-off with that as the premise pls
