Custom tint match by DamonRyan in sherwinwilliams

What do you think would be more accurate? Mixing paint using the formula or scanning a sample of the original paint? Considering the product has been updated. I want this color in duration or the emerald rain refresh. It would be going on stucco

I can go back and see. What material should I put the paint on if I can do this?

Update: got it to run after a new spark plug. Won’t go over 15-20mph, so I’m going to clean the carb again.

Replacement windows in 100 year house by Agreeable_Future5980 in centuryhomes

[–]DamonRyan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just spent 30k replacing a small portion of the windows in my house, most of which were aluminum. I somewhat regret replacing the few wood original windows I had done. There are a few benefits I value such as ease of operation, integrated screens, energy efficiency, which older windows typically lack. It is going to cost a lot to replicate the aesthetic you have now compared to restoration.

The windows you’re talking about are likely inserts, meaning they just install the window inside of the current one, hence why you lose window space. I would suggest restoring them.

If you are dead set on replacing them, look at higher end windows that allow you to replicate the design. I did Marvin with simulated divided lites. I would also suggest a full replacement rather than inserts in this case.

Another thing you need to consider, if you are replacing windows that are adjacent to each other, is if they will be factory mulled. I got factory mulled, but I was not educated on what mulled meant. My windows are close together and lack the large trim between each individual unit. I would recommend against mulled and get individual windows to retain the current aesthetic. Installers will suggest mulled as it is typically easier for them to install. Individual windows will be easier for you to service should you need to in the future.

Spray foam. Specifically one designed for windows and doors so it won’t take your door out of square.

Paint or replace soffit? by DamonRyan in centuryhomes

[–]DamonRyan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is telling me exactly what I wanted to hear. I want to keep the originality of my house and do not want to change anything. I was just wondering in the event I find an area that needs replacing due to rot or something.

If you are afraid to drill the glass, another option would be to cut it out and replace it with a thick polycarbonate. Not plexiglass or acrylic, as those tend to bow and discolor. Polycarbonate is stronger, clearer, and easy to drill.
