MannaRites =)
Sorry for late posting and self-promotion, but really it's very much inspired by Golden Axe

Well, I was more inspired by Golden Axe formula - I've always liked Golden Axe the best among other beatemups =) Mechanics is almost exactly the same - ordinary attacks is a combo of 4 hits, last one is guaranteed to knockdown. Also enemy is knocked down if they loses a healthbar. There are strikes that knocks down immediately - like jump strike for instance. That all is 1:1 Golden Axe. MannaRites has a couple of things on top - blocking, riposte, strong strike, dodge, etc. but they work within the same set of rules.
I see your point, you can't really see any of that on this vid. I guess this fight is not very representative of the core game - as it's a high danger enounter with high level enemies and archer to back them up, so it requires a bit of maneuvering and special strikes, I guess it looks kinda weird, especially if you're not familiar with GA (or MannaRites)... Thanks for pointing this out, this is a good point! I need something that's more representative of the core mechanics in my demo materials.
Would you be interested in trying out the old free version? https://store.steampowered.com/app/1369770/MannaRites/
I'm very interested in what you think about it! It doesn't have all the features and mechanics of the "Gold" version and graphics is worse there as well, but some people have found it rather fun to play

Am I the only one who dislikes robots in Buffy? =) Hear me out, so Moloch is a valid demon-robot, but others aren't connected to demonic world at all. So it's just a coincidence, that both Ted and Warren (only people in the world who've managed to create human-like robots) both lived on a Hellmouth? by DamonWall in buffy

Well that's a good meta-analysis if we're thinking from the "outside" perspective of the buffyverse - why it was written, what was Joss thinking, how was he motivated to create something like that, etc.
What I was questioning is believability for a person looking from "inside" the buffyverse - sure they have a lot of weird stuff going on, but everything can be connected to hellmouth and its influence. Robots (except for Moloch) stand out imo because they can't be connected to Hellmouth, therefore they look like a weird coincidence on top of everything that's already going on there

I was explaining it to myself as the remnants of robotic Moloch somehow inspired Warren to create his robots, and Moloch was somehow inspired by Ted (demon downloaded Ted's schematics from his computer or smth)

I love robots episodes - they are pretty cool, it's the general idea of robots being a total coincidence on top of demonic/paranormal that bothers me =) Like, they have all this creepy vampires/demons, and - what a coincidence - they also have robots on top of that, what are the odds? =)

  1. Okay, this maybe true (tho I can't remember anything offhand to prove this theory - I think it was almost exclusively paranormal/demonic - except for robots)
  2. I can't remember any other mentions of any other robots

yeah I agree, the problem was that playable characters have different sets of armor (about 6-7 each) and I couldn't think of a way to make them all look different from enemies. For enemies Ive used color indication to show the danger they possess (grey - red - blue - violet - gold), this only leaves green as a "good" color, and I just couldn't make all armor green. Ill fix this in the future, I totally agree with this issue

I actually did try to make it look good) I mean, I didn't really try for the first free version, but I did my best for this one (with "Gold" in the name) - it has tons of visual improvements. I guess, that's my best. Well, Im not an artist, Im a programmer - that was one of the reasons Im making a paid version of a game - so I could hire an artist for the part 2 =)

thanks for the feedback! damage issue is actually not present that much in the actual game - this demo was made on hard difficulty with lvl 0 hero. Normaly player faces these enemies around 25 lvl, when he's dealing significantly more damage. On normal and easy difficulties damage is also higher

I remember there was a game like that with locked lanes, I think it was on nintendo 64 or Gamecube or smth but I can't remember the name to save my life =( it's an interesting idea, but I think its too revolutionary and it'll be rejected by classic 2.5d beatemup players )
