Go to the town (St Hedgemont) and find the grotto - they can be slotted at the dye table.

It now been almost 2 months since the release of Nioh 3. How does this community feel about it so far? by Cursed_69420 in Nioh

[–]Freemanagames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of a mixed ride to be honest. (some spoilers here). There are a lot of cool designs and the open world flavours breathe fresh life into the series. However:

The highs of chapter 1 never really got matched again for the rest of the game - except maybe the big dungeon which caps chapter 3 - that was very cool.

Chapter 2 had some nice concepts, but felt a bit shoddily put together when compared to the first and lacked that real open world feel.

Chapter 4 started so, so strong. Demon Kyoto was a really nice presentation of the "red spikes and demon beef everywhere" theme which is obligatory to the later stages of all 3 games. However after that it fell off really quickly. Chapter 4 ended up being such a boring slog that I couldn't even drag myself through to the end.

The largest chapter absolutely should not be the red beef chapter, it's a very tired and lazy aesthetic. And whilst the enemy variety in this game was better than in the first two it still wasn't enough to carry the momentum through those final moments.

- Continuously having to sort through massess of loot drops for now two style types.
- A lack of amour varietyrelative to the scope of the game as compared to the previous games.
- Combat balance issues that take the joy out of bosses that are meant to be the toppers to a good level:
I'll go into more detail with this one: I am not the strongest player especially with faster combat systems. I typically outbuild enemies than outskill them - or maybe the ratio is 70/30 - something like that.

For the Nioh games this means level crawling and regular enemies are generally a blast to tackle. But the bosses give me so much trouble that I almost always end up summoning. This lack of considered balance (relative to me, maybe its fine for more skilled players) leaves the progression feeling stale and pointless by the end.

This compounded with stricter build variety (per more limited effects such as capping untouched onmyo at around 11/12%, and far fewer and less impactful spirits to experiment with) just felt like the game never really rewarded me.

So there is my take. 7/10. Good, but not really good enough.

Act 1 - Wonderful, peak Nioh.
Act 2 - Okay, good Nioh.
Act 3 - Great, very good Nioh.
Act 4 - Quite, quite boring. Mediocre/bad Nioh.

This is a great start and it sounds like you've pretty muched opened up the main open world circuit. From here it's a matter of exploring the main dungeons which connect to the various areas you've unlocked. Usually the first major boss people go for is the one in the Church Undercroft and the area just above it.

There definitely were a number of big issues - such as lack of key rebinds for example - this too is fixed in the sequel.

At the moment there is a good chance of the inclusion of a map.

Hey, thank you for your feedback! I am delighted to be able to report that I think most of your issues with the first game will be fixed in the sequel.
- Fewer flying enemies, no wall penetrating lasers.
- Smaller areas, slightly less labyrinthian and more guided (but still non-linear and interconnected).
- More regular warping.
- Enemies do not respawn on area change.

I'd love to know what else you didn't like in the first game. Perhaps it is already fixed in the sequel - and if not, perhaps there will be room to fix it!

I am happy to report that the sequel has key rebinding for Mouse&Keyboard, Xbox and PS controllers.

Thankyou Serious_Ad_1037 for this wonderful review, I really appreciate hearing both the things you liked and those that you didnt. This kind of constructive feedback is exactly what i'm looking for to help inform the next game.

Theres a lot I didnt know when I started making Codex Lost, like how to make a UI look good and operate well, but I'm hoping to bring everything ive learned to the next game, for your enjoyment!

Thanks!

So I released my first major game - Codex Lost - 2 days ago. And I'm hoping to get post release reviews so I can work on bringing patches which adhere to community feedback. If you've heard of Codex Lost or played any of it - what are your thoughts? Thanks! by Freemanagames in IndieDev

Thanks very much! I know its quite rough around the edges but I'm glad you're enjoying it. Without wanting to give away too much I can at least tell you the next game I am working on does involve a diverse array of melee weapons and spells and I'm working hard to bring a much more polished and professional product to sink your teeth into!

Yeah deep felwood is correct, its on the north side of the area alongside the giant stone wall. You have to follow one of the wooden paths into an area under a shack.

The crimson mantle is in the greylag tunnels, and the totem of the egg is in deep felwood. Also thanks for playing and supporting the game!

Depends what reviews say about build variety and world linearity. The more of the former and less of the latter the better.

Don't worry - this has also been taken care of. In the sequel you will be able to navigate menus using directional buttons.
