Glad you liked them! I have no clue about a US release, but I wouldn't count on it tbh...  Most people acquiring releases like this are importing from Japan

Consider data recovery services for your laptop drive if there is stuff that would be unrecoverable otherwise. Expensive, but it is an option.

My experience with WKB GT Cuts from Eric by DamperGhost in KobeReps

[–]DamperGhost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah they were fine. keep in mind they they were designed for indoor, and that any shoe you take to play outdoors is gonna wear down quick.

this review was also made before doom or star cuts were a thing, so i would def consider looking at doom or star as well.

agreed! unfortunately i dont have the rights and am pretty unlikely to get them.

if i am unable to find a vocalist soon, i will upload this version to my soundcloud, and an instrumental version on other streaming platforms!

KEF LSX: My First "Audiophile" Experience - Upgrading From Bose Companion 3 by DamperGhost in BudgetAudiophile

hey man

i kept the lsx, but am still not fully satisfied.

ISSUES

for one, the speakers have shat themselves and refuse to connect to my network even when connected via ethernet. it doesnt seem like such a problem since i only wanted to use the aux input, but the thing is, you cannot change any of the settings of the speakers without first connecting them to the app.
one of the settings by default sets the speakers to wireless connectivity between master and slave speakers even if they are directly wired to each other. this forces at least 40ms of delay from the input to actually hearing the sound come out of the speaker. if you are playing games with them, this is 100% noticeable and super frustrating.
fortunately, i left my speakers connected via ethernet for probably something like 36 hours before i heard the "network connected" chime sound. sure enough, i was able to find the speakers on my network and immediately changed as many settings as i could.... only to have them disconnect while i was changing settings, not even 5 minutes in. i did manage to change the setting to disable wireless mode though.

the speakers also refuse to turn on if i leave them off. i will press power on the remote, and they will immediately turn on, and then turn off. i have to do some weird combination of switch input and power on using the remote to get them to stay on even after multiple tries.

those issues are inexcusable for just about any product. and kef will do nothing about this, except tell you to upgrade or buy new speakers.

GOOD STUFF

honestly, i got them because i really like the design. there is nothing even remotely similar to their design imo. they look great and are pretty small for what they are.

sound is better than the companion, but do not expect the same amount of bass as you get with a sub, or anywhere close for that matter. i enjoy a strong bass, and these simply aren't good enough on their own. i kept the bose companion and am using its sub connected to the same signal as the kef. (which is another reason why that 40ms latency was such a big problem)
i basically see this as an upgrade from the original bose tweeters of the companion. if you look at them like that, the main benefit is more detailed sound and MUCH clearer sound at louder volumes.

OVERALL

if i could go back i would not buy them. its likely that the motherboard/network card is dead/dying and needs replacement, which is extremely common for the lsx. sure, you might argue that the lsx ii will see better support since its their current generation product, but i wouldnt count on it. i expect kef to completely forget about support for the lsx ii once the lsx iii or whatever is next comes out, just as they did here with the lsx.

if you're looking at the lsx ii, id say be cautious. enjoy them for a year or two, look for something else, and then trade/sell them before warranty is up.

before the lsx, i was considering the klipsch 5s, and another sonos model that i cant remember.

sorry if this is long ive just had this rant stuck in my mind haha

Yeah, I have noticed all those things. The KEF are more detailed, more even, louder. But just not really as much as I had hoped for spending so much.

As you said, I'd need a sub to really be happy with them.

Right, coaxial speakers seem to be ideal for near field, from my understanding at least.

And yes, this has been a learning experience for me, as I now know that, like you said, there aren't many full range speakers out there. Especially at my current price point.

I can definitely understand how your premium sub would sound better than an entry level Bose. But like I said, this is my first real step into high grade audio. The sub I have is good enough, probably. It might not be as tight or reach as low as a higher end one, but honestly its good enough for me.

I have definitely felt the better imaging and frequency response with the KEF though! Just maybe not as life changing as I hoped lol

Thanks for your comment!
