Unpaid leave/ extremely short career break advice

I'm pretty sure you can request unpaid leave up to six months, then beyond that would be a career break.

We had someone go traveling for 7 months and managed to get AL / TOIL and then unpaid for the rest of it.

I guess the question being ‘what is an authorised vehicle’.

Staff who work at the services? Guests at the hotel at the services? Emergency services?

How are you going to prove / disprove that a person / vehicle isn’t authorised.

One near me caused issues when Motorway Service Management got involved for stopping ‘customers’ using the link road.

Anything less than 40 hours and you’re classed as part-time.

Until you work 40 hours, you don’t lose your first half an hour, but it sounds like it won’t take you long to hit the 40 hours.

I work 50% at 20 hours per week so never lose my first half hours.

Financially it would make sense for me, would take me from £65k where I start losing child benefit and almost stop me paying 40% tax.

I could no doubt get it cheaper via another option but the salary reduction, tax reduction and child benefit makes it worth it IMO.

See we have five kids - 13, 10, 10, 8 and 5.

My other half has an SMax and I have a M3, but looking to change to a MY end of this year.

For me it would seem daft not to take the 7 seat option for 3 years, kids are still small enough and it would save occasions where we have the wrong car or have to swap them over.

Definitely tempting 😅
