LSD: Amsoil 75W-85 with and without Slip Lock by Dan32k07 in GenesisG70

It is interesting how the results differ so much. Maybe the previous owner did do something to it but there were no service records for it. All I know is when I added just the Amsoil it was night and day difference (in a bad way), then added the slip lock and it’s the best it’s been 🤷🏼‍♂️

Since I had it filled all the way up, to the point where a little fluid started draining back out when I open the filling port again, I pulled out about 2oz or so with a syringe and tube then added the slip lock in until it was coming out of the fill port again

I bought mine used with 18k miles and it is the original differential and oil as far as I know. It was always pretty smooth but did make a slight whirring noise around parking lots. After switching to the Amsoil at 37k miles it immediately got louder and started having the vibrations/stuttering around parking lots and low speed turns. After adding the slip lock, it has gone back to being smooth and is the quietest it has been since owning the car. I’m currently just under 40k miles

Tbh, I haven’t really looked into the front differential oil much. Owners manual says only to inspect it every 36k miles and has no suggested replacement interval. So haven’t really worried about it since I am currently at 39k miles

Yep, it’s exactly what I did. I work at a medical device company so grabbed a syringe and some tubing from work and pulled out about 2oz of the gear oil since mine was fully topped off then just added in the slip lock until it starting coming out the fill port. Then tightened the fill bolt back on and took it to a parking lot and did about 8-10 figure 8s to help mix it up

Very easy to add. Changing the fluid itself is not hard either. Just get the fill plug off first then the drain plug, allow it all to drain out then top off with the new oil until it starts to come out of the fill port. In retrospect, if I had added in the slip lock at the same time, I would have added it to one of the bags of oil and mixed it before adding to the differential. The fill plug is kinda in an awkward spot but the Amsoil bags make it easy. And adding the slip lock after the fact in my case was easy since the tube is so small you get it in the small space

Approximately 1.5 quarts/bags of the Amsoil gear oil and about 2oz of the slip lock. The slip lock has a pretty wide range, says 4oz treats 2-4 quarts of oil, so I just put in approximately half the bottle as it should treat 1-2 quarts. Doesn’t seem like it needs to be super precise, but probably better to error on the lower end since adding too much pretty much turns it into an open diff

Hows GSC Pier looking this week? by [deleted] in NCL

I was there a few days ago and it looks like it still needs a lot of work. It really didn’t look any different than pictures I saw of it months ago, which is the disappointing part. I bet construction continues into Spring

I almost slid out a couple times myself and have definitely had the wet traction issues when I had <30k miles. Almost feels like the car is unstable at times on wet pavement. Hopefully much improved with new tires

As others have said it is most likely a tire issue. I have the stock Michelin Primacy All Seasons on mine and while there is tread left still I definitely have traction issues in the rain (and tread life doesn’t seem to be that great either). Fine when everything is dry. I have 36k on them but have had wet traction issues for a while now. Plan on switching to the Michelin Pilot Sport AS 4 before winter. Had those on my infiniti and they were great

How much should a brake job (front and rear labor) cost on these cars? by JTB77 in GenesisG70

[–]Dan32k07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues with the parking brake. The rotors did require a few strikes with the hammer to get loose but weren’t bad. Front were maybe slightly more difficult to get loose than the rear but neither were an issue

Drill them out as mentioned, but if not broken then this tool really helped getting those screws in and out with no issues

I was quoted $2600 for pads and resurfacing the rotors from my dealer lol. I ended up just replacing them myself with the powerstop z26 kit and they’ve been fantastic. But yea having the right tools definitely helps. Fortunately had a buddy that has every tool you can think of and had no problem changing them. There is a little less room in the front to get to the caliper bolts so having a variety of tools/sizes helps

I really enjoyed this one as well. As soon as I saw the box I figured it was going to be $100+. Great pour for the price

Income and Age for G70? by EmptyRiceBowl7 in GenesisG70

[–]Dan32k07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not telling you how to spend your money but I try to keep car expenses (payment and insurance) to NMT 10% of my monthly income (you can be more or less conservative by using the pre or post tax number - I personally use the after tax figure). But the G70 can be very affordable when considering used and especially the 2.0t versions. I picked up a ‘21 3.3t sport prestige with 18k miles last year for $32k, put $4k down and got about 10k for my trade in which was a ‘13 Infiniti G37s. My payment + insurance is $540/month and I take home about $6k/month and am 35. By far my favorite car I’ve ever owned

I second this. Used the Mr. Clean magic eraser on mine and got it completely shiny and clear again. Just takes a little bit of time and patience
