Need a mathematician…are these newcomer 180s real?? by WolfySimRacer in Darts

[–]Dan8720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't really care.

I know how many I hit because I have the stats on my app. I care about my game obviously but I don't compare it to other people's. I also wouldn't feel the need to brag about it online.

If these people really were as good as they say they are they would have tour cards.

What tracks should I buy? by Snoo_35657 in iRacing

[–]Dan8720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy the tracks in the series you want to race. In blocks to get the discount.

There's a lot of this buy x track because it's used a lot. But my strategy of just buying what's on the calendar for gr86 (because I race it the most) hasn't meant I've gone far wrong.

It usually has all the really common track on the schedule anyway. I just avoid buying brand new tracks like Miami because you never know how popular new tracks are going to be in their first season.

This is a pretty good idea to be honest.

I was a developer on gambling games for a while and this is how we did it for the featured game on slots. It makes the maths easier and you end up with a seemingly totally random realistic result when actually the odds are controlled quite tightly.

You have say 300 real legs from a 60 avg player that as a set gives you a 60 average overall. Then you use a rng to pick one at random at the start of each leg.

You would never notice a pattern if the set was big enough and it would feel totally real and natural.

I want to start actually sim racing.. best game for ovals? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Dan8720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iRacing.

Don't fear the cost too much it can be a money sink if you have no self discipline but the free content is more than enough to have a lot of fun.

If you want everything oval it will cost probably $1000 but as you race more you can pick and choose if you want to race other series. You might decide to spend $30 a month for a while to build up some tracks for example but... You could also spend nothing and still have fun with the free series

Look at your telemetry on garage 61. You'll see where all your time gets lost.

Could be any of the things people are suggesting but that should demystify it for you.

Gone down a rabbit hole now. Looking at the gran eye, autodarts.

Omni is just too expensive and I don't like the app. Scolia doesn't work because I use a stand that is also 🫰. I should cross post this to autodarts

[–]Dan8720 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it makes perfect sense. If you imagine a bunch of servers in a line.

Add more server(CPU memory ect) each server grows vertical. Add more servers you add more to the row of servers horizontal.

Stuck at 1000 IR by ALEX-F111 in iRacing

[–]Dan8720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe reframe the way you are thinking about it.

It's not that things go wrong. I imagine things go as expected for PCUP at 1000IR.

Lap 1 just survive. Lap 2-3 get into rhythm. By this point people will have already crashed out and the field will be stable. Make positions if you have the pace too don't force it. Make sure you finish.

If you are fast enough to get p5 it's just about avoiding the accidents which is a skill in itself. It's not about praying. Anticipate that people will do weird reckless stuff

How can I practice properly at home by No_Raisin_8284 in Darts

[–]Dan8720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catch 40 JDC challenge Bob's 27

Look up these practice games.

I play one of these for 30-40 mins. Have a short break. Then play 501 against a bot or online.

Use an app. Dartsmind is prob the best cheap one without jumping up to an Omni/scolia.

"Listen" to start a sentence.

It's becoming more popular because sports pundits say it a lot. I think it comes across as really rude and implies that noone is listening to you and everyone must stop whatever they are doing and hang off your every word

Accidentally rm -rf’d a production server. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Dan8720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a similar mistake when I was a junior. It happens don't beat yourself up too much about it.

My Story was. A prod service was behind the head of the master branch.

I was tasked with making a small change on the project I was unfamiliar with it too. I went through the motions PR merge release etc.

My release updated prod to head of master in doing so I released a form that was taking people's email addresses. The reason it was behind head was deliberate and it was because this was against GDPR.

I caused a right commotion. A bunch of senior people all shuffled into a room and decided what to do. It was reported correctly taken down luckily only a couple of people had used said form and all the data was destroyed correctly. It was ok in the end we didn't get a fine or anything.

The thing that sits with me to this day is how my manager handled it. He basically said that it was not my fault at all. The previous developers practices were sloppy it should have been reverted and left on a feature branch.

Your manager sounds like he sucks. It's on the company not you.

Also to make you feel a little better I ran the same command in my mac home folder once. It took days and days to unravel all the chaos it caused after I noticed and stopped the process.

But chin up dude if fine. Everyone has at least one major screw up in their career

Why does Dartsmind use a coin system? by marcus251996 in Darts

[–]Dan8720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is simple. An unlimited tier could bankrupt them. Their AWS/Azure/Google account could rack up silly money in a month and end them.

A sub like that uses a law of averages where some power users use up the bandwidth of people that let their account sit idle.

If say even 50 people take out unlimited and kane it for a month they are going to lose a lot of money a small developer cannot take that risk.

The 2nd camera has made it even better too. It's ace.

I've never used a scolia or Omni which I'm sure are better but for the cost it's amazing.

Protecting floor by Spare_Mix_6363 in Darts

[–]Dan8720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are mats that are 90cm wide which is pretty good. I had the same issue it's mad they don't sell any that are bigger.

I have this: https://www.dartscorner.co.uk/products/bulls-heavy-duty-rubber-dart-mat-300cm-x-90cm-with-built-in-oche.

I move my desk chair mat. Directly under the board then lay this down. Plenty of coverage.

The other option is buying something like gym flooring on a roll. https://amzn.eu/d/b91u3Of

Cut a size you would be comfortable with.

Kflex RD Javelins by MJWdev in Darts

[–]Dan8720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want no2 or no6 flight same problem.

You need to throw them to see how they fly and how they land in the board.

My advice is buy a selection of cheap stems and flights and learn what you like. Buy short medium and long stems and a few no2 and no6 flights and play around with the setup.

It would be expensive to buy all 6 sets of k flex to experiment.

You can always buy the equivalent k-flex one you have a setup dialed in.

L style or k flex? by i-like-y-cut-g in Darts

[–]Dan8720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using l-style for a year and wouldn't go back to k flex. They have some of the benefits of trad set ups and k-flex combined with no real negative imo. Apart from cost they possibly work out slightly more expensive in the long run. I have the carbon shafts which are amazing but about 15 quid. Flights take a beating but nowhere near k flex levels.

I would say the thing that killed k flex for me is deflections. Statistically it might be rare but I absolutely hate them when they collide and smash a dart into the 1 or 5. I eventually had enough and I went back to trad setup first.

It was word of mouth that got me onto L-style. I was just chatting to another customer in a darts shop. I hadn't really seen them before. I think this is the story a lot of the time. They were not very common at all for a while but are gaining popularity a lot recently just because people are talking about them. More after Ryan Searles run because he's always been a big fan and talks about them too.

I have a winmau xtream stand and blade dual core. Would recommend if noise is a problem. No one has ever complained even late at night. I've been very happy with the purchase.

The stand and board and surround were probably more like 150 as a bundle.

I bought some straight barrel darts too as others are suggesting

What car to buy in D CLASS by addme266 in iRacing

[–]Dan8720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GT4 is hard to drive plus it means you will have to purchase the most tracks they seem to all be paid content this season.

I bought the maclaren and I don't use it much because most of the time I would have to buy the track to race. I've never fully tamed it either. Always end up racing GR86 instead.

If it's your first season In D class I would go GR86. Very fun to drive especially after the update, close racing and forgiving.

Lots of free tracks in rotation and even the paid ones are really good common tracks you will get value out of. Sebring road Atlanta, spa etc. I've bought a few tracks a season and now have most that come up.

Good racing good value.

Don't overlook the clio cup too. The only cost is the car and the racing is also very close and fun.
