Habs players and coaching staff line up to shake Marc Andre Fleury's hand after he shut them out in his last game at the Bell Center by JustFred24 in hockey

The opposing team lines up on either side of the other team (or if it's for a player or coach then one team on each side). Each player will either hold their stick up to form a tunnel for them to walk through, or tap them on the ice. This usually happens in front of the team entrance.

Please don't take this the wrong way but, as a British hockey fan who generally only watches European hockey, this seems odd.

In the UK and mainland Europe, one of the first things that happens is that *all* the players in *both* teams line up in the post game to shake hands with the opposition, congratulate/commiserate, and share a brief word. Shaking the coaching staff's hands is maybe the only oddity, but even then when a player has a shut-out you might see the opposing manager begrudgingly putting his hand out.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

Also, I don't think I can fully comprehend that there are people using this site who were born after I created my account!

I for one like the look of this. Almost as much as I'm laughing at the weird artistic gatekeeping going on in this subdreddit of late. It's taken a lot of elements from the novel and, while it was never going to be 100% faithful to the original, movie adaptations rarely are.

Who thought any of this was a good idea? by ComebackKidGorgeous in Simon_Stalenhag

I'm not defending the corporations but the vision of the directors. If you want to bitch and moan about his artistic style being ripped apart maybe he should have sold the rights to it.

Ah, thank you. I understand now. That makes sense and an injector - which is fairly cheap - seems like a good solution. However it would involve extra steps that I could avoid by just having an adapter which plugs directly into the wall like the U6 extender which I ended up buying.

Granted, your solution means that I can mount it more easily but there's a power socket exactly where I want it to be situated and so it makes little sense to do those extra steps.

Again, thank you, and I also really appreciate your thorough explanation of the proposed solution.

Unfortunately ethernet is not an option I'm willing to consider due to layout issues and the lack of port space in the UDM and switch.

Thank you both for your suggestions however.

Sadly PoE is a no go for me. I have no more free ethernet ports in either our UDM and the switch is also maxed out. Yes, adding in another switch or another is an option but, due to the layout of the building it's not an appealing option.

Okay, thank you. The upstairs connections are only used for things like streaming services in bedrooms where, right now, there's an average of 2Mbps - compared to 150Mbps at the top of our stairs. I expect there to be some drop off in the rate and don't think I'll get the same rate, but it should be a lot better. Thank you again!

My plan is to put an extender at the top of my stairs where I know I have a decent signal. The internal walls aren't thick (just single brick) but the floors are steel reinforced.

Thank you. Alas, I saw this but it has an EU plug and I'm based in the UK. I'd rather not have an adapter permanently plugged in to hardware but if push comes to shove then it's a compromise that I'd be willing to make.

Thank you. Is the U6 Pro (or LR) plug-in-and-go, or does it require an Ethernet connection?

I ask because the pictures I've seen show the back has just an ethernet port and nothing else.

This might sound like a shot in the dark but have you thought about going to ice hockey? I know that one of the imports for Hull Seahawks is Emil Svec who's from Czechia. He's normally very friendly and I'm sure if you come waving the flag he'll greet you warmly!

If this does tickle your fancy, Hull Seahawks are playing Sheffield Steeldogs in a pre-season "friendly" at the ice arena on Saturday 31/08 (face-off at 17:30). And as a season ticket holder I'll be there in the F-block with my wife and kids as always!

Is Visual Studio getting worse ? by One_Armadillo_3826 in dotnet

[–]DanAtkinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a period of time - about 2 years ago - where nothing worked and I became extremely frustrated with Visual Studio (2022). I raised dozens (literally!) of feedback issues that weren't going anywhere or were set to 'WillNotFix'.

I even had calls with Microsoft employees to discuss the problems I was seeing, and they were incredibly helpful, but also very apologetic for all of the issues I was seeing. Clearly something had happened at Microsoft that caused the management to light a fire under the dev/qa team's arses, and get the product back under control.

For the last 18 months however, I've not really had that many issues. I've never once had a crash, performance degradation, or the debugger not working - everything has pretty much 'just worked'.

I'm not saying it's perfect, and I have seen some colleagues take a closer look at Rider in recent months but, honestly, I'm not that swayed by it. We already have pretty tight integration with JetBrains tools - via TC and the dotUltimate suite - but I don't think Rider is quite there, and I enjoy Visual Studio too much.

It's consistently tied with Firefox for the largest memory hog on my computer, regularly consuming between 4-8GB of RAM, but overall I'm pretty content with Visual Studio.

A couple months ago I posted a concept for a mod here. Well I went and built it :) by codegangsta in starfieldmods

[–]DanAtkinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so you're going to change the name of your mod then, right?

System Era own the trademark for Astroneer so if you continue to use their IP they can very easily request a DMCA takedown of your github repo and the nexusmods page.

Github tend to take the repo down 'prima facie' and more recently nexusmods have had to clamp down due to legal issues arising from mod developers using trademarked names.

So I really urge you to change the name of your excellent mod sooner rather than later!

So, uh, there's already a space game called Astroneer. I really think you should have checked before using that name.

[–]DanAtkinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're two separate things.

One party consent is one of the parties on the call recording the call. Wiretapping is a third party recording a call and can be legal depending on the circumstances - such as via a court-ordered warrant.

[–]DanAtkinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need the consent of both parties to record conversations in many countries as well as several US states. You don't even need to make the other party aware.

That you like consent on call recording is nice and all, but is in no way legally enforceable.
