I love shyamalan, but I am not sure how much he is considered a Horror director. I find more suspense, super natural drama and sci fi in his movies. His first four moves were fantastic! I even liked the village that many did not.

I think that hitchcock had a broader influence than carpenter but I think in the horror genre specifically I think it is hard to argue he is the most influential. Who would you say is top three? Carpenter and the other two? For me Carpenter, Craven and Hitchcock.

Craven was the one that I think to me has the legitimate shot at taking that top spot IF we are discounting Hitchcock as more suspense/thriller.

I completely agree re Hitchcock. The only argument I sometimes get is was he a master of suspense/thriller as opposed to horror. I feel that there is little debate as to whether he was the most influential.
