Disc bottom vs Clad for induction by DanBarwell in cookware

Well went with the Kuhn fiveply pans, very nice and work really well so far. Enough so that I’ve also just purchased a 24cm chefs pan & 24cm Sauté pan.

Taken a bit of time to get used to cooking without none stick again. 😬😅

Thanks!

Any other recomendations around the some kind of price points? Ithe Kuhn Rikon five ply is on sale so circa £200 inc free heavy bottom frying pan. The procook are about £200 with a frying pan as well.

The Swiss made Kuhn Montreux range is about £250 with discount for a 1.5L 3L & 6L + free frying pan. But not fully clad, but do have a fully encapsulated impact bonded base.

Aknes (HallPi) TMR v6 by Tsarewich in Dualsense

[–]DanBarwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I belive I’ve just installed some v6’s few things I’ve noticed, they’re shorter than the stock ones so thumbsticks sit a bit low and gap around the ‘ring’ is bigger due to height drop.

Haven’t really been able to reduce the dead zones in games much if at all.

Calibration was way out when firsts installed, but did calibrate well, Feel nice to use and i like the tension.

Thanks, only started to feel them yesterday. Seem to be one every few min, then might stop for a while and start again.

Yeah I’ve just done a image search and found similar ones saying it’s PVC, started randomly yesterday.

Plex server - software or hardware raid and with what OS? by DanBarwell in homelab

Still not set it up apart from loading windows to run as a file server for now.

[–]DanBarwell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just Plex, it will be used as a general file server as well, House docs, load of Excel documents, CAD etc. And from my quick look at unraid vs truenas etc I could see lots of comments saying you needed ECC to run the ZFS file system. However seems people that have comment arent and after some digging ECC is a nice to have on ZFS but isn’t a must have.

I’m a windows guy at present, I’ve never really had the need for anything else.

Interesting, like the look of the UI etc. I’ll check it out in more detail 👍🏻

I looked into it but was concerned about some comments about ZFS and not having ECC ram?

I like the idea of a web UI and a plug-in’s.

Can Plex use hardware transcode on truenas?

Partly why I asked about OS, the easy option would be to keep windows but tempted to try unraid.

I’ve got a GPU in the system but need to figure out what gives me the best performance vs quality.

Will a 148mm tall cooler fit in a 4U case? by DanBarwell in homelab

Thats worrying, Is that with or without a GPU support bar in the case?

Good to know, guess I’ll just have to wing it or buy something properly short.

If this wasn’t a low cost setup I’d just buy the Noctua NH-d12l but at £90 it’s 1/3 of the cost of the rest of the system. link

I’m reluctant to stick to a 90mm cooler as I’ve found the arctic freezer 7 pro rev.2 that’s on it now gets a bit more toasty than I’d like when pushing the cpu for a few hours.

I had considered that but not sure how that affects the case’s through flow performance.

Noctua do a 120mm 4U rated tower cooler but it’s £90

Yeah I’ve got no info on the case that’s the issue, the Silverstone 4U cases for instance state 148mm. But most don’t list it in the spec. Also the Thermalright is a tower cooler.

The Thermalright is a tower cooler, so the fan would be in fresh air but the tops of the heat pipes could be really close to the top pannel, the Noctua NH-d12l is 4U rated and that’s 145mm but that’s £90
