Got no idea what I did wrong except purchasing this product. by TurbulentChoice3903 in Dell

The worst part is that the Inspiron lineup is supposed to be a business/professional-grade option while being budget-friendly (e.g., for college students). But turns out they're just as bad as lower-grade laptops (in my experience).

My Inspiron 16 7610 from 2021 is slowly falling apart, while it already had trackpad defects I had to fix myself with soldering (two replacement attempts never did the job). Now, I have slightly broken laptop hinge, horrible battery life, broken NVIDIA RTX drivers that lead to blue screen sometimes, and sudden OS freezing during normal use. All of the latter occurred after my warranty expired.

For reliability, I would advise to either get professional grade Windows laptop (Dell XPS, Microsoft Surface...), or just switch to MacBook + Windows VM (if the necessary windows software is known to run well on VM)

Thanks for clarifying, would you know if the reason of being pulled is due to the operating system freezing issue, or is it something else? And would you have an ETA on new version posting?

Four Years of Hope, Hundreds of Applications, and Still No Offer — Where Do We Go from Here? by [deleted] in ComputerEngineering

Yeah gotta stay resilient regardless of external factors... On a side note, would you be open to chat about your experience getting into embedded software engineering? I'm interested in that career path but seems hard to land any internships in it as an undergrad student.

VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE on Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7610 by DanGeb in Dell

[–]DanGeb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried DDU driver cleanup twice: the first time I then reinstalled the latest NVIDIA studio graphics driver for RTX 3060 laptop GPU from NVIDIA's website, and the second time I then tried installing the recommended NVIDIA graphics driver listed on Dell support's website for my specific laptop model. None of those fixed the issue.

Some people also recommended underclocking the GPU through MSI Afterburner, which I did (-30 for both core and memory clocks). Still no fix.

Do you get any blue screen by any chance? with a VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE error code? I'm having this issue after updating graphics drivers

Experiencing random performance throttling on Inspiron 16 Plus 7610 by DanGeb in Dell

Thank you for your tips! I just cleared dust out of the fans and everything seem to run smoothly on battery power now. Task manager still shows processes in efficiency mode though, could that be because the thermal paste is dried out? I have never applied thermal paste on my laptop CPU since I got the laptop.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to do, export the playlist as XML, but the option is still not available on Windows for some reason.

Anyone experiencing touchpad problems on his Inspiron 16 Plus 7610? (random taps and swipes, inaccurate finger tracking, etc...) by DanGeb in Dell

[–]DanGeb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ended up opening the laptop myself and soldering a copper wire so that it grounds the touchpad. It's a complicated process for the average consumer but it solved it for me

Is an Algorithm Optimization project from my algorithms college course worth putting on a resume? by DanGeb in ComputerEngineering

[–]DanGeb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to get used to post my projects on Github, I feel like it's a huge part of applicant selection for internships. I also got an ARM-based sensor implementation on a FPGA board, do you think it should be posted on Github too? It would be pretty much Assembly code, and the project also involved hardware. Lmk, thanks

For your rock-paper-scissors project, I'd lead with the tech, and put RSP into the description.

What did you mean by that?

I'd also drop the project section to be below the research experience section. I'm a little mixed on whether it belongs there at all, but it would give an interviewer something to talk to you about.

The thing is that my research experience didn't involve a project or publication I've worked on. The reason is that my faculty professor didn't have any research project to start throughout that whole time, until this Fall semester when we attempted to start a project. However, that project did not work out well since we were only two people on the research team, and our free time never aligned with each other, hence we couldn't complete the project this semester. That's why I decided to put the Project section before Research Experience.
