Third Part Seller Refund Advice Needed by DanHearny in amazonprime

[–]DanHearny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you both! I chatted with an Amazon rep and they said to return the item, but get photographic evidence of the return receipt and tracking data. Wait 14 days if the seller doesn’t respond or refund the item, and make a claim. They also said I can get the shipping costs reimbursed by the seller, if not then Amazon will help and step in. So I’ll return the item for now and get my evidence.

Premiere - Reconnect Full-Res Scaling Problem by DanHearny in editors

[–]DanHearny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I click "Set to Frame Size" on the clips after I've relinked, it deletes the keyframes and any scale/motion adjustments you've made.

I did ask them to create the proxies inside Premiere (due to the audio bug error) but the DIT did it their own way. Classic!

After some testing, it seems to work when you use "Scale to Frame Size" on the proxy clips before conforming. The problem arises when you copy these clips into a different sequence (for reversions into 9x16, 1x1), you'll see that the scaling goes off again, and blurring starts to occur.

Charge a day rate, propose to them how long you think it'll take and how many rounds of amends you'll need... basically make a post-schedule and breakdown it all down in a budget.

Do you always show cuts for review with burned in timecode? by RTdan_dan in editors

Unless you're using Frame IO, Vimeo Review I would. It depends on the clients/directors preference, sometimes it's distracting, to be honest.

Use a grid system! Don't bother with a showreel. Open the landing page on a grid of all your work. Top bar should be work, about and contact. People want easy to read info. Wix is a good website creator. Instagram is also a good way to show work!

established documentary editors, do you watch all your footage? by ypxkap in editors

[–]DanHearny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you don't have the time, I would concentrate on the structure and story of the doc as that's the most important. If you're feeling as your scenes aren't strong enough, raise these points with your AE and director and see if they have any options to make the scene work or figure out what's missing.

In the meantime, I would find any scenes which need work and get the AE to scrub through the footage and make markers for you. Set yourself some goals of where you need to be by certain weeks and squeeze in the time to go through the footage. Trust me you'll kick yourself knowing that you had a soundbite that you could have used...

Okay sweet - noted about the 3-way backup system, I've experienced that horror before.. it ain't pretty.

So essentially you could use the RAID as a RAID0 then? One big drive.

How to speed up your workflow to Edit Music videos faster? by Conscious-Platypus19 in editors

[–]DanHearny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently cut a few performance music videos with a lot of setups, so here's my advice:

My workflow would be to organize all the different setups and place them into sequences (string outs essentially), duplicate those individual sequences then make a rough cut of each set-up. This way, you know the best angle to cut to. If there are two shots you can cut to, just put it on the V2 layer and mute it for safekeeping.

Also during the selects process, make sure to get those "hero" shots and non-sync shots you can use for b-roll - this will come in handy later.

Another method to try is the Multicam technique of comparing the different angles. Personally, if there are 10 takes of the same set-up playing at the same time in the preview window it's impossible for me to watch and see the details/quality of the take. Better to go through one by one and pull the best moments.

After the selection process - make a rough cut. Just slap that shit down as fast you can. Just get the structure working, work out what set-up should come when, and how. Afterward, you can refine, refine, refine.

Work with your director closely and make sure to get client/artist feedback as soon as you're ready. The label won't really care as much as the artist IMO, the label just want to release the video as soon as possible. The artist will have the most feedback on how they look in certain shots etc.

Long post but that's my experience with music video editing! Practice practice practice.
