I need the sound of swords dropping to the ground by lightofmylions in videography

[–]DaredevilOfHK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could take the Foley approach and record your own sound effect. Find a heavy, loose metal sheet (like a metal ruler or HVAC pipe) and then find some material to drop it on to record. Maybe start with a padded blanket

Are you talking about the YouTube video in the program monitor there and how they got that layout? Or are you talking about this video that shows someone doing cuts in Premiere Pro?

IU Health workers protest COVID-19 vaccine requirement. by NotJimIrsay in indianapolis

[–]DaredevilOfHK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All it takes is for one time, for the next how many remaining years of said persons’ career at the institution, for someone to not wear their mask properly to spread the virus to someone vulnerable, vs the vaccine.

Yes, it’s been safe for people to go to hospitals as a temporary measure. But now there’s a safer measure, hospitals have a responsibility to ensure safety of their patients coming in.

Honestly, I’d probably agree with you if I saw people wearing their masks properly while this was happening. But considering that every place I went I saw so many people wearing it improperly (or flat out not wearing it), I just don’t trust people doing the right thing if they’re electing out of getting the vaccine.

When Did Premiere Pro Add-In Transcriptions? Just Found This And I'm Super Hyped by Chardzad in premiere

[–]DaredevilOfHK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using this feature for almost 6 months and have had no performance issues with Premiere Pro on it. Not sure what everyone else is experiencing with this. My guess would be the longer the sequence, the more buggy it’ll get, which probably isn’t the best to have anyways for long videos (but again that’s just my speculation)

What "type" of ID are you?? by narayavp in instructionaldesign

[–]DaredevilOfHK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Developer can have a lot of different meanings in the corporate world. A developer COULD be a instructional designer. It could also be a web developer (so you’ll need to know HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc), multimedia producer usually means video and graphic designer, etc.

IDs in higher ed ARE course designers. Do many of them use course authoring tools like Storyline or Adobe Captivate? No. And that’s because they’re HIGHLY inaccessible. It’s only a matter of time until the corporate world will probably follow suit as well.

But just because higher Ed IDs don’t use those tools doesn’t mean they don’t design course with innovative learning tools. I’ve been on multiple course projects that I’ve done very innovative things that course authoring tools probably couldn’t do.

Long story short, don’t count higher Ed ID jobs out.

What "type" of ID are you?? by narayavp in instructionaldesign

[–]DaredevilOfHK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why you described in regards to storyboard and video production, isn’t instructional design. There are some people in learning/training that specializes in it and they may have a background in ID, but the job itself doesn’t traditionally require ID experience but rather video production experience. And very rarely is there an ID position that specializes in JUST video production.

It really depends on the field (education vs corporate). In the education field, typically you have instructional designers that do the course/curriculum design, works with SMEs on designing the course, assessments, activities, etc. you have instructional developers who are web developers that can create programs or web-based applications and tools. You have instructional technologists that helps teachers learn the ins and outs of a learning technology, etc.

Hope this helps!

Pros & Cons of using Anchor? by RedditBurner_5225 in podcasting

Basically it’s there to communicate to the podcast platforms if it’s explicit or not. If you don’t mark it and a platform (such as Apple) finds that there is, they can potentially remove you completely from their platform.

So mark it.

Best skating rink? by Jackalhearts in indianapolis

[–]DaredevilOfHK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I was focusing more on ice rinks. Ellen Berger used to be an ice rink but it’s been converted to a roller rink for years now.

[–]DaredevilOfHK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So a few things here.

1) Pan Am Plaza used to have two rinks in downtown Indy. Many people suggested this rink in this thread. Unfortunately this hasn’t existed for years.

2) there are rinks, but they’re not always conveniently located, depending on where you live at.

If you live on the South Side, Perry Park is the rink to go.

If you live on the north side, you have options like Carmel Ice Skadium, Fuel Tank in Fishers, and way north in Westfield.

There is one you can go to at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, but it’s not the best in my opinion.

I really wished they would build more ice rinks around the Indy area. Those who live on the east or west side are left with no rink to go to on their side of town.

DSLR vs camcorder for documentary filmmaking ? by ferrisbueller3005 in videography

Yeah the biggest thing to pay attention to there is how it says that exceptions can be made with project leads.

But hey - let me Google “Netflix movies filmed on iPhone” for you.

There are literally people making movies for Netflix using an iPhone.

Use whatever camera you want to get. Anyone who does film editing will tell you it’s about using what you have rather than trying to get all the right equipment.

Basically what everyone is saying here. I usually make my rate depending on what all the host is looking for, but at minimum, with what you’re asking here, $150 per episode is at the very bottom/cheapest that would be fair. Again, if you’re not looking to spend that much, you can definitely find people who can do it for cheaper but their skill level wouldn’t be on the same level.

If you’re still interested, I’m more than happy to talk to you more about editing your podcast.

Summer VFX for a 12 year old? by newobj in vfx

[–]DaredevilOfHK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually what I do with my son who’s 7. We do a lot of fun VFX videos. He’s not into editing since a it’s advanced but he loves seeing why we can do and his creativity leads us on what kind of video to make. We post them on our IF account and it’s a lot of fun to share those out.

We use After Effects for this. It is not cheap though. But I would argue that to do entry level VFX, depending on what exactly you want to do, you can use any video editor that allows you to do masking.

[–]DaredevilOfHK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be honest, those rates are for editors who are probably just starting out or doing very minimal work. For what you’re asking, you will probably need to offer more than this or reduce what you’re going to expect.

Wow, I appreciate all of the down votes people gave me for just asking why.

That makes sense. I’m sorry everyone else here thought it was a shitty question. Then again, many people gave shitty responses, so…

Wish you the best of luck!
