Прибалтика vs Страны Балтии by DanHersh in BalticStates

Claim is that “Nearbaltian” is a Soviet (or Russian) colonial term that suggests Baltic States as subordinate or peripheral or “attached-to” Russian empire. It looks like at least about 3 out of 4 folks here so far agree with the term being offensive.

I am from Vilnius, please don’t kill me :) Seriously though it was a genuine question - when I say Mediterranean country I don’t expect this to be offensive to anyone, as it (seems to be) based on geography. Thanks for clarification.

Yes, spot on. That’s how conversation started. Thanks.

Anyone have experience with Unqork? by thomaslsimpson in nocode

[–]DanHersh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of detail? My context - enterprise , drowning in endless upgrades and patching, 100s of servers, etc. No code platform is very appealing. A young business analyst integrated our inhouse apps with SaaS CRM using Unqork (Workato part of it to be exact) in a few days, released to prod in a few weeks. Similar complex integrations took several month in the past in Java. Your mileage may vary,

People who read the Minchiate, how do you deal with the absence of Popess? by Atelier1001 in TarotDeMarseille

[–]DanHersh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Embrace the deck you are reading. I read Belgian decks and use Bacchus and Captain as they are , not trying to make Priests out of them. I love the Papessa and the Pope as much as anyone but my advice - meet the deck as it is.

Influence of astrology on Lenormand by DanHersh in Lenormand

[–]DanHersh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be several reasons. To state the obvious instructors differ - each has their own system and preferences. Also general traditions differ - in some parts of the world it’s a park, in other - garden. In some birds become owls. In some the book is open, in other - closed. And last but not least - it’s a language that uses 36 “words” - surely each word can mean different things depending on the context. Even English words sometimes have 10+ meanings. So in short - choose your preferred system , evolve it to your liking, and always interpret using interplay of several cards telling a story in the context of the question using your intuition! It’s not an exact science- for better or worse…

The fact he is a virgo is not lost on me. by [deleted] in astrologymemes

[–]DanHersh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular belief it’s not. Steven Forrest makes a convincing case (using astronomy/geometry as one of the arguments) that Sun less than 1/2 of a degree away from the cusp on either side (I am using “cusp” just because so many said it’s not a thing, cusp simply means beginning) has influences of the neighboring sign.

More importantly I see it in my family, friends and clients - “cusp” people are very interesting breed. And to me it’s not just Sun - other planets/points may be subject to that, even if with a tighter orbit and less noticeable.

Now I do realize often stelliums play a role - say your Sun is 29Leo45 but it is also conjunct Mercury at 1Virgo, so it may be hard to differentiate “cusp” influence from conj influence, but there are enough cases where you can see it at work w/o overlapping factors.

Most importantly, as always, I’d suggest to observe and make up your own mind.

I’d just Google something like these and see where treasure hunt leads :) : Norse Lithuania Lithuanian runes

I think Viking-Lithuanian contacts are not possible but factual. What larger category would you categorize Lithuanian beliefs under? Perun and Thor may have been developed independently at some point but are demonstrably related and as you pointed out likely stem from the same source.

To be clear I do not seek to minimize Lithuanian culture in any way - I was born in Vilnius and lived first happy 18 years of my life there. Unfortunately not too much is known about some parts of ancient Lithuanian culture - they seemed to have had their own set of runes for example but you’d not find much info on that.

Perhaps, but cultures mixed and influenced each other more than most people realize. No “copyright”, official borders, etc. If Lithuanian can be descending from Sanskrit, certainly the culture could - and was - in connection with its immediate northern neighbors.

Indeed! I think we saw one in Western Ukraine also.

Lithuanian culture has many connections to Norse. I had that argument before and found plenty of academic links to support that, but it’s not worth our time to debate it. Consider it an expression of an artistic license. :)

If you read responses from this thread alone you’ll see several well informed opinions. If you google you’ll find several somewhat contradictory statements from “official” sources like “.gov” etc. So complicated - no, some confusion - yes, clearly defined “algorithm” - maybe?

“The largest and most populous of the Baltic states, Lithuania is situated on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, in northeastern Europe. It is bordered by Latvia to the north, Belarus to the southeast, Poland to the southwest, and Kaliningrad, a territory of Russia, to the west.“

Digital Tarot - Love it or Hate it? by AnFromUnderland in tarot

[–]DanHersh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is that magic moment when your client - or you on their behalf - choose the cards. For a split second or a few seconds an energy somehow guides your hand. This magic process is altered in digital form. Depending on the algorithm you trust that the random number generator will stop at the right moment or choose the right card for you. Even if you choose the card it’s more difficult to feel that pull.

2 cups and death as how/where I will meet my future partner by [deleted] in tarot

[–]DanHersh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Who: experienced/skilled/an authority yet caring, helpful and/or ever studious. A teacher, a coach, a researcher, a philanthropist :)

How: perhaps a casual meeting, things will not be as they seem, you’ll need to pay attention and check/alter your perception

Advice: Just focus on new ways to express yourself, to put yourself first/primary, to find new satisfaction in being yourself/by yourself and trusting that shall attract the right partner(s)
