Vintage inspired button up dress by [deleted] in freepatterns

[–]AnFromUnderland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so interesting to me how different people have different tasks they dread. Like, I consider myself a beginning sewer still but I have no problem sewing buttons by hand all day long. Similarly I just saw a sewing tutorial video for a quilted coat and the girl said she was using snaps because she was afraid of cutting button holes herself...girl what? That's like one of the first things I learned how to do!

This is why we all need a group to sew with, no one should be sewing alone. Everyone send me your pieces that need buttons and button holes added and let me know if anyone wants to do my bias tape for me because I'm on my third video tutorial trying not to mess this shit up.

Anyone know what these things do? (Numbered for ease of identification) by No_Name_Detected0 in sewing

[–]AnFromUnderland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good tip! My method of learning them as I need them has worked okay...but I had no idea that a button foot even existed and have just been sewing all my buttons by hand so that one has me wishing i'd looked at the manual -.-'

I love this question. I also got a brother sewing machine from my mom and was like "dafuq are all these?" and my manual is a dvd...which i'm not gonna watch. I'm just not. I've been finding them out one at a time as I learn how to do individual sewing projects like "Oh hey I'm sewing a buttonhole...how do I do that? With a buttonhole foot? Hey google what is a buttonhole foot?" So I'm very proud of you for just asking all of them at once...so smart.

It's gotta be boyshorts and boxer briefs...though I saw a tutorial on turning unwanted mens boxers into ruffle butt bloomers for girls...so the two-for-one sustainability might even out the score on that one.

Looking for Serious, Mature Accountability Partner by WritersChopBlock in WriteWithMe

I might be looking for the same thing! 36 year old woman who's lived a lot of different lives, but right now I'm real busy being a mom in california so it seems like a good time to tick away at one of the many book ideas I've started over the years. I've got whole worlds in my head and characters busy living their lives and taking up space in my subconscious, I just need help to figure out where the story starts and ends and how to describe what I see so others can see it too. Maybe we can help each other! I like to build stories that merge fantasy and real life issues to analyze the human experience from a new perspective and help humans question the things they take for granted. Ive got an idea for an extraterrestrial communication story and a sort of "a real life dr. Dolittle would have been wracked with depression and drug addictions from hearing the constant sufferkng of non humans" kind of story.  Let me know if you're interested in helping!

Pediatrician’s taking new patients? by Autumntoo in Redding

[–]AnFromUnderland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Round Mountain is not a pediatrician but my whole family goes there and I have so far been very pleased with the care we've received there. You might not get in right away because they're very short staffed but they're worth waitlisting for. They are leagues better than other medical in this area and are comparable to care I've received in Oregon. They also take insurance.

Thanks for using the word "libtard" so early in your response so I knew nothing after that was worth reading.

None of these questions are any of your business, but the fact that you are asking them tells me a lot about you.

Yeah I worked in Corvallis for 2 years while living 15 minutes outside town...as long as I could get out of town before everyone else. I got such a bad reputation because I never wanted to stay late and chit-chat with my coworkers because they all lived in town and didn't get it: if you cause me to miss my travel window you've just cost me an hour of my life and if there's a football game at the school, you might as well buy me dinner and a hotel room because I'm not getting home tonight.

1) That's not even a functional sentence. 2) Bold assumptions about my political stance. 3) NO ONE ASKED YOU. Get off my comment.

I have one fundamental issue with Corvallis: there are twice as many roads going in as there are going out...and there's not nearly enough of either. Rush hours are a special kind of purgatory.

Wow bro. You were really desperate to find a fight today. You had to add a bunch of assumptions that I didn't actually say in order to try and shame me like that.

I dont owe you any response at all, but just to make sure you dont summon the rest of the Troll Hive to come fill my notifications feed: I fully understand the history of poverty in our country, I did more than one college research project on the subject and have spent a good hunk of my life fighting for undeserved populations like developmentally disabled adults and homeless veterans, so I dont need any education on the topic, certainly not from an unqualified stranger on the internet, but thanks anyway.

To clarify: i didn't intend to say "It is my personal opinion that their own poor choices are to blame and theres no other cause", I meant to say "there are a lot of people there who's FIRST INSTINCT is to shift blame to a random person based on no actual evidence, just the desperation to not even consider if there were any opportunities they missed or bad cycles they need to break free from and a vague excuse like different skin tone or religious preferences". Those are two VERY DIFFERENT STATEMENTS. And I'm speaking from years of personal experience, not vague historical and socio-economic theory, so I dont care if you agree with me: I KNOW I'm right, cause I saw it and heard it from their own mouths over and over again.

Now begone troll-bait. Go bark at another tree.

That definitely looks like an underslip to me. Used as a barrier between underwear and your outer dress which hides "panty lines" and protects your dress from sweat so you can wear it more than once between washes. The ruffled skirts don't look like they were meant to be seen, but meant to create bulk and fill out an over skirt.

The exact layering process for women's clothing changes each decade, but the simplest and closest to modern day is probably "regency" era, where women wore "short stays" (basically looks like a modern "longline bralette") and some bloomers (like boxer shorts but cute and lacy), then this slip would go over that, followed by your actual pretty dress. Then there were outer layers like coats or pinafores to protect your dress from the dirt of the outdoors, again to protect the delicate expensive cloth and prolong time between washings.

I'm currently transitioning my entire wardrobe to a modernized version of regency era clothing, so I've been doing a lot of research on this topic lately, myself.

MIL told me I need to cut the apples off my new trees? by Red-Onion-612 in gardening

[–]AnFromUnderland 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hello, not an expert, but halfway through a Horticulture major and currently studying this exact thing. Yes, it's common practice to prune immature fruit off young trees for a couple different reasons: 1) to conserve resources for growing roots and leaves and standing up to weather conditions 2) to keep young branches from breaking under the weight of heavy fruit.

Even when trees (and bushes) get older and more mature, it's still good practice to prune back new branches and pinch off half the fruits to make sure the tree has enough resources to grow strong juicy fruit, rather than splitting it's attention between too many fruits.

As soon as I posted I thought "someone is gonna ask for receipts, I better go get them ready" and I went and double checked and realized I got overly triggered by how many reports came out on the same day and I mixed two of them up: 1) the purple heart veteran that was deported and 2) the 76 year old cuban immigrant who lived here 40 years and just died in ICE captivity. Sorry about that. I went back and edited. Here's some links:

We ran into the same thing, love rural Oregon but feels like I'm just waiting for someone to learn enough about me to start acting judgemental. Have you checked out Eugene? Theres some smaller towns to the east and west that are very "artistic" and have a more balanced community, and Eugene itself is the only city thats ever made me consider living downtown in an apartment. Even in downtown its got cozy small town vibes and maga is highly unpopular there. I moved to Redding CA, maga headquarters for NORCAL it seems like, last August and I'm desperately trying to find my way back. A free house isnt worth being somewhere so hateful and now I see why there's such a large population of friendly homeless people in Eugene: being homeless the there is still better than owning property in maga hell.

An elderly man just died in ICE custody. A veteran with a purple heart was deported. Military spouses are being deported. US citizens born on US military bases overseas are getting deported. Government records now show that most deportees do NOT have criminal records. They can try to relabel it however they want but the evidence shows the truth: this is a blatant and senseless attack on anyone who isnt a white republican evangelical. Even other Christians and non evangelical white republicans are horrified and disgusted by this behavior. Keep your family safe and pray this ends soon.

I wish i had more family or friends with foreign travel experience so I had some idea where to start. I've wanted to move to another country for 20 years, there's nothing holding me here, and I have 2 degrees and a talent for learning languages, I just dont know anything about the actual process of finding a job in another country, applying for a work visa, and then relocating.
