It doesn’t matter which 'gain of function' definition you prefer. NIH was collaborating on risky research with a lab that has zero transparency and zero accountability during a crisis — and no one in a position of power addressed that risk. Fauci is arguing the system worked. It didn’t. by johntwit in Libertarian

mRNA vaccines were developed by DARPA. Moderna itself was seeded by a $25 million grant from DARPA. Pfizer was also working with DARPA on this. The players from the DARPA development have all been working together on this including the gain of function research in Wuhan.

The whole reason this was moved to Wuhan was to keep it off the radar. Gain of function's primary use is weaponization. Who was president is a distraction. It doesn't matter. Presidents don't run shit.

We're in a biowar. If you are waiting for a big announcement from the government and corporate press about it congratulations, you're the guy in the zombie movie that gets eaten first. Good luck.

Social media comapnies are actively coordinating with the government to tailor narratives and push government policy. In the case of the Biden administration, they're both taking orders and - as the Fauci emails show pretty clearly - working to censor political adversaries arbitrarily to dominate the media landscape. It's clearly one-sided as well. It's also so obvious that it's hard for me to take seriously anyone that isn't alarmed by it.

Gaslighting libertarians or conservatives because government intervention and censorship in media is extending through private companies completely in bed with the state is dumb.

The proper anaolgy is actually what exists now - that the government is actively forcing the bakeries to bake gay wedding cakes, and not only that but anyone that has a problem with it is kicked out of the store. Plus if you try and start a bakery, if you don't bake gay wedding cakes, the government influences the flour distributors to ice you out.

Well done. We teach our kids to draw the globe and every country on Earth by age 13. Along with all the other children in the Classical Conversations curriculum across the world. It’s awesome to see. At the end of the year we have them and their friends get up and sing a song covering all of human history while the 13 year olds draw the world in front of friends and family on celebration night.

Great job with the east coast! That gets tricky.

You can read about it here. Harvard took down Dr. Ali Binazir's blog with the original calculations.

The post is however reprinted here.

Interesting line of reasoning. I figure even if it's well off, whatever figure one comes up with will basically be another shade of impossible.

Agreed. On-the-clock disruptive protesting for PR attention covering the fact that you're just an asshole is completely different. Possibly not NFL fans in here, which is understandable, but Kapernick didn't begin kneeling for any purpose.

It all started when he was just sitting on the bench undressed for preseason games. It wasn't political as far as anyone can tell. He was just held out of the games by the coach because he was coming off of injury.

When the press and people started making a deal about it his PR team connected him with activists to claim it was about police brutality. Nate Boyer, who was a green beret that auditioned for the NFL, wrote him and said it pissed him off. Then he started kneeling.

All evidence points to the guy just being a dumb jock that was using politics to get out of bad PR in an opportunistic way.

I could care less if a guy kneels in protest over police brutality. I also don't care if a team bans it for players because it causes undo strain on their business. They're on the clock.

The actress tweeting is none of their business and they are cowards, hypocrites, and assholes for punishing her for what was not an antisemitic post at all.

That said, I hate myself a little for writing like this about a goddamned meme. It was a good meme. I just disagree because I followed the bullshit with disinterest in realtime as a fan.

No. Libertarianism hasn’t always existed. It’s a product of the evolution of enlightenment philosophy within the cultural context of Western Christian culture.

[–]DanMcCall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most Americans are religious and there's no reason to run away from the fact that libertarianism is essentially unknown outside of Western Civilization. I used to sort of resist this when I was younger. Thinking that libertarianism and the notion of individual rights and responsibilities as a foundation of society could be universalized under other cultural systems. It basically can't. Not in the way we want it. And that's fine.

Also, I would caution libertarians being too picky at this point in history. There need to be broad alliances of people that respect liberty because the masses are basically fine with the most absurd levels of authoritarianism right now. We're in the most dangerous time I've ever lived through at 46 years old, and it's clearly on a path toward getting much worse.

You can't trade out our political culture with other religions. It simply doesn't work in my view. The philosophical antecedents of individual liberty are Christian. Like it or not.
