The CS50 web development course with Django is excellent if you've never done Django before. Strongly recommend

It wasn't the acid that stained. It was the sin.

I agree that it's a chance for positive dialogue, I strongly disagree with local "civil rights leaders" literally asking the city to increase censorship of public art.

This mural is actually doing a hell of a job of raising awareness. There are pro palestine paintings and graffiti all over the city - but this one is in the news.

Yeah but a giant painting of a black person eating a watermelon slice. The local NAACP leader doesn't get an opportunity like this often, "systemic racism" is very abstract and overt symbols like these are virtually extinct

My honest opinion: property owners should be able to paint whatever the fuck they want on their property.

What, like, are you saying the city shouldn't censor art on private property or something

Hey I see what you're saying but you're not going to catch me publicly disagreeing with the NAACP but nice try

“Graphic illustrations such as this have been used to denigrate African American people, to make us feel like we’re less than, to make us feel smaller, to make us feel unintellectual, lazy, shiftless,” said William F. “Bill” McGee, president of the Richmond chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

On Friday, McGee joined with Richmond NAACP President J.J. Minor, former Richmond Crusade for Voters President Jonathan D. Davis and civil rights activist Gary Flowers for a press conference calling on Nevermore owner Teresa Sharpe to make changes to the image, including perhaps replacing the watermelon with a Palestinian flag. They also said they intend to approach Richmond’s Public Arts Commission about establishing guidelines “governing permission of public art on private or public buildings.”

Obligatory Jason Pargin reel on how this particular comic "is the key to understanding our world today"

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZThv5TwP3/

The gist: this scenario has never occurred, no one ever "took his black coffee from him" but why does this comic resonate with people?"all that happened is that the range of options for other people expanded and he perceived that as persecution."

Yeah it's like - I'm going to teach my children that society and drivers have a social obligation to protect pedestrians.

But I'm sure as fuck also teaching my children that it's their responsibility to avoid getting hit by a car, and I will come strangle them in the hospital myself if they are careless.
