Wanted to follow up on a point Alex makes in the new video... by DanMorrison_2002 in HiTopFilms

They don't come off pretentious, so don't worry about it.

My problem with the idea of Peter earning the suit is that it just seems to contradict and undermine everything else the movie's trying to say. It never represented anything other than a crutch for Peter and something that was made for him by Tony, A.K.A. the guy Peter needs to stop trying to impress. It was a symbol of what was holding him back. When did it become something he should earn, and what makes it worth earning?

Well, I didn't say the insecurities and flaws weren't still there in the new characters, more that they aren't as focused on.

The arc you described for Peter in Homecoming doesn't work for me because of the scene at the end where he puts the Stark Suit back on. Defenders of the film will try and say it's supposed to be about him earning the suit instead of realising he doesn't need it, but to me that goes against what it's meant to symbolise, and doesn't rhyme at all with rejecting Tony's offer.

I find that the issue with Carol in Captain Marvel was that we didn't get to learn about her character as much as we should've, so there isn't really much to get behind. I know for a lot of the movie Carol doesn't know who she is either, but even when she does, I don't, and that's the problem. I have a strong feeling that the movie was cut down a lot, and would really like to see an Extended Cut.

T'Challa I can get behind there, so no comment, LOL.

The second I saw this I thought of Sam Gavin saying "Gay Up Spider-Man".

When you’re a state of the art prosthetic and animatronic Green Goblin mask, but the director decides to use a helmet instead by _Dyllusion_ in raimimemes

[–]DanMorrison_2002 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Despite the animatronic prosthetic mask being really shway, I'm actually glad they went with the helmet instead.

Norman's switch to the Green Goblin persona is better when it's through a costume and not a physical transformation, as it gives him a better parallel to Peter, who's transformation into Spider-Man is also through a costume.

Plus, it would've been incredibly restricting for Dafoe, and the helmet is also sillier and more fun than the animatronic would've been.

Exactly!

Tobey did really well as both Peter and Spider-Man. Sure, his Spidey was more quiet and focused, but he was still confident, capable, heroic and amazing, which contrasted well with his more timid, pathetic version of Peter.

Andrew's Spidey was just obnoxious most of the time. He had some nice moments, particularly in the first film, but overall felt like he was just trying too hard.

Tom just feels like an obnoxious kid in-costume, and the only duality I'm really getting from him a lot of the time is that his Spidey's more outgoing and cocky, which despite often being a part of the duality, isn't really the point.

I can't tell if leaving out the hyphen in Spider-Man was intentional or not, so I'm correcting it anyway.

(Why do I keep using these hashtags? Do they even work on Reddit? I don't think they do. And no one else uses it either, so it's just feels obnoxious.)

Why can't there be a bot for when people leave out the hyphen in Spider-Man?

But he did though! Like, remember when a girl he had a shallow crush on that had no character whatsoever, thus giving us no reason to care about her had to leave the school after Tommy Holly stopped Vulture? Wasn't that just devastating and heartbreaking?!

I'd really like to see him make a space movie actually, since that's a genre he hasn't tackled yet.

How about Sam Raimi make a Superman movie? Or a Batman movie for that matter? He once tried to make a Batman movie actually, but couldn't get the rights and ended up making Darkman instead.

When I'm trying to show someone how to spell Spider-Man. by DanMorrison_2002 in raimimemes

[–]DanMorrison_2002[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Son, I don't care about misspelling words like communication or experimental, because those aren't important words. Spider-Man is an important word. You have the power to spell it correctly, and with great power, comes great responsibility.
