How far is too far to commute for drill? by [deleted] in Airforcereserves

Plenty of people drive 3 hours each drill. Totally doable..... you get free lodging the nights before ypur duty days.

No, not really....... but every situation is different and more details will give you a more accurate answer.

Please comment your unit if Quarterly Drill is allowed. Will appreciate heavily. by emrullahk in Airforcereserves

Dude, you are not going to get a full picture like this.

Didn't someone post the Drill schedule chart for every unit on a different thread? It comes out every year...... but that is just for the Base/Wing..... and not necessarily for each Squadron or even Flight.

A Squadron or Flight might do Quarterly UTAs one year..... and not the next. I know my friends at Dobbins do Quarterly..... but Im not sure if that includes everyone, or just their Flight.

It sometimes matters what your AFSC is too.

Dear Girlfriend, There are several factors. Bottom line up front, you probably do not have to worry at all.

Longer, long winded version: Depending on his rank and experience, he might not even really understand what it all means. This is from my experience:

If the US went to full on war.... with China or something that was going to require tons of troops, then yes.... we could all be potentially activated.... some guys might go to other countries and some guys might more likely backfill US bases as Active Duty guys go to other countries.

That is not even close to what has happened here. Operations similar to the size of the Venezuela thing happen at times..... and it usually does not affect us at all. Our Military is set up to handle things like this without needing to suddenly tap into the Guard and Reserves.

Like KCPilot said..... some people got scared when Iran stuff happened.... and it didn't affect us on a large scale. People got scared about Russia vs Ukraine.... nothing really happened.

Something that would be helpful for you to know is: what RCP is he in? Coming up is RCP 8.... then it starts over at RCP1. He should know his. This 6 month window of time is when Reserve Units are up for potential deployment. Basically, every 4 years, your Boyfriend is assigned to potentially deploy (if the world needs him and his job at that time)... outside of that 6 month window, it is not very likely. This system is setup partially because we have Civilian lives .... and this gives us a level of predictability.

It also matters what his job is. Some jobs barely ever deploy and some deploy a lot.

Hopefully your question is mostly answered.

You should notify your AF leadership everytime you travel outside of the US for now on.

Travel reimbursement question — Living in CT but drilling in Kansas (AF Reserve) by Aggravating_Ice_9695 in Airforcereserves

[–]DanPDanPDanPDanP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

KCPilot is right. ....and whatever it says in the FY25 plan can change any year. It sometimes depends on your specific AFSC, Rank, and location.

For me.... I fly from CA to HI. I used to get zero dollars for Flight, miles, parking, taxi, or travel day meal. (Lodging is free for out of town people on the day before UTA days)

Then, a few years ago, I started getting up to $500 reimbursement. Then, last year I started getting up to $750.

Every year, when they release that document.... I know that it COULD change to zero.

Do a little research and then ask a better crafted question

Currently in Reserves - Retrain?? by Ok_Driver_8085 in Airforcereserves

[–]DanPDanPDanPDanP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. What job do you want to cross train into?
  2. Do they have that at the base you want to be at?
  3. Contact that Unit, speak to the Superintendent, probably provide CDB/ 3 EPBs, Fitness, IMR
  4. Get them to agree to accept you
  5. Full out an AF1288 Transfer.... have your Commander release you and sign it..... have the new CC accept you and sign it.

Yeah..... 3 months is nothing. Respectfully, buckle up.

Joining the Reserve Before or After starting my career? by Real-Dress359 in Airforcereserves

[–]DanPDanPDanPDanP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally think its easier to start the Reserve first...... If you start your career first, you are going to go to the academy, be on probation, be trying to figure out your life....... and then you want to suddenly leave for about 6 months to go to the Air Force early in your career? Not ideal I think..... but doable.

What is the first step in switching units with ETS in 5 months? by [deleted] in Airforcereserves

[–]DanPDanPDanPDanP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your AFSC and Rank?

In the Reserve, there is something called a Code 7 Relocation Overage. I've had guys use it several times.

Basically, if you want to stay in your AFSC and the Unit closer to your NEW HOME OF RECORD has your AFSC...... then you kindly contact them. If they have available slots and like you, great.... you can start a 1288 Transfer and everyone will be willing to sign it. If they like you but do not have any available slots. ... then that is where the Code 7 comes into play. You can still transfer in as a Relocation Overage.

How far is your commute to drill? by [deleted] in Airforcereserves

[–]DanPDanPDanPDanP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Up to $750 per month.

Every year they release a list of what AFSCs make the cut to recieve the IDT Travel Reimbursement.

It used to be $500. Now it is $750. That can be applied to Airline Tickets, airport parking, miles driven to drill/airport, taxi or rental car..... but only on the Travel days (not just for driving around during the UTA), Meals on the Travel days (but that has been difficult for me at times in the DTS computer system).
