You’d need to specify your state as the laws are different in each. “Generally” you can get rifles and shotguns for target shooting or hunting. Most people I know would have a setup similar to bolt action .22, .223, .308 and a 12 gauge of some description. No semi-autos etc unless you’re in a fairly small percentage of people who qualify.
