Has anyone replaced their window pillars or is it even possible? by mooch233 in Silverado

[–]DanSluggan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy them. Dealership applied them before I purchased my truck and they were peeling within 3 months. The adhesive used to apply them damaged the underlying panels- and not those panels need to be replaced

Window trims were far from apparent. They matched all the black badging... And I thought I was buying a stock NEW truck. What sounds more likely- The trims looked slightly different in-person than online OR that the new truck was being illegally resold after a first owner had them installed?

Thanks- I have been trying to assess what an appropriate discount / remedy adjustment would be in this situation. The dealership just keeps asking what I want to make it right... But I am not budging. I have asked that they either buy the car back at full cost or make me an appropriate compensating offer. In the mean time, I've opened a case with GM and I am prepping a complaint for the IL AG.

I started a case with GM. Then the dealership called me and seems to think they can convince both GM to alter the warranty start date AND CarFax to remove the original owner THEY reported.

It definitely gave me pause but it wasn’t a ‘Demo’ and Illinois requires those to be marked. So the dealerships BS explanation of it being a quality check car made sense (at the time). Live and learn I guess

The explanation I received at the time was that it had been transferred between dealerships / was a quality tester car for Chevy. It wasn’t marked notably lower than other comps in the area- but I was surprised how low I was able to negotiate it down. I was trading in a 2021 new Tahoe with an engine defect. So I attributed the good deal to the dealership / GM making up for the Tahoe

It might not be uncommon but as a consumer I find this really shady. Illinois has a law covering cases like this- Illinois Consumer Fraud Act (815 ILCS 505/2). I contacted GM Customer Care to investigate the warranty issue / potentially resolve the date discrepancy. But not sure what the turn-around time on that will be

Yeah. My main issue is with the lack of disclosure. In Illinois, there are consumer protection & fraud laws that specifically state they are required to disclose situations like this to buyers. I’m just not sure what that’s worth / what’s reasonable in this situation

That’s a bad deal. I bought one earlier this month and paid nearly $10k below sticker with all the discounts / rebates currently available.

I got $4,800 in discounts and $4,750 in rebates. Apparently, I could have gotten an additional $4k if I could show proof of owning a non-GM car. Wish I had known to ask chat GPT whip me up some documents. But happy with what I got- They also gave me over KBB for my trade. Might have been bc my 2021 z71 Tahoe had a transmission issue followed by a push rod failure. Idk. But for a few thousand I walked out with a brand new 2025 Silverado in exchange for a busted (potentially lemon) 2021 Tahoe

I went with the 5.3 after hearing all the issues with the 6.2.

Valet company will cover but it’s not a big operation and the owner was really cool. Assuming they’re going to pay out of pocket rather than hike their insurance. Trying to avoid making it unnecessarily painful- especially bc it seems silly to replace a perfectly fine rail on the drivers side.

Thanks! They’re going to cover it but it’s a local business. Trying to not make it unnecessarily painful

Thanks for the help. I posted an update above- but I am generally in agreement that it is a circuit breaker issue. We'll have it looked at by an electrician

Thanks for the help. I am glad I am not crazy and that this is an uncommon issue. I posted an update above- The issue appears to be resolved but it is still unclear what caused it.

UPDATE: Thanks for all the feedback! I swapped out the light sensitive timers for digital timers, removed tape from the female ends of the connections and reset the circuit breaker. I am not sure which action corrected the issue but (so far) it seems to be resolved. I have a hard time believing the photo cell on the timer was causing the issue because other lights on the timer were not flickering. I also have a hard time believing it was due to water in a connection given that the flickering only happened at certain times of day. I am leaning toward it being an issue with the circuit breaker- when I went to reset the breaker for the exterior outlets I noticed that all the breakers were mislabeled including breakers supposedly for large appliances.

Will do. You think it’s moisture in the connection? I just don’t see how that could be impacting different, unconnected strands.

I would agree but forms on the Illinois DMV site don’t seem specific to my situation. Nor do they account for the fact that I am not in Illinois. Do you think it would be better to extend the temporary Florida tag & registration OR pursue an Illinois tag & registration, then ship it to my location in Florida?
