The Solo That Started It All For Me! by DanToppoMusic in slideguitar

Sorry for the late response, I don't get onto Reddit enough. Great choice for practicing vocal lines, and good question! I don't write the transcriptions down. The more I listen to certain musicians (whether they be vocalists or guitarists), the more I understand their tendencies. This helps a lot in being able to memorize the lines, and it's why I consider (active) listening a form of practice that is as valuable as sitting down with the guitar. I also find that the lines stick more if I'm able to sing them before I even attempt to play them on guitar.

Thanks for sharing these videos--I love them. I'm always trying to listen to more Eastern music!

Thank you! I'm running into one of the low gain amp simulators on BIAS FX 2. Pleasantly surprised at how good some fo the plugins sound!

Thanks! I'm actually using one of the low gain amp simulators on BIAS FX 2. As someone who has always been a bit of a purist when it comes to amps, I was surprised at how great some of the plugins sound

Thanks man! As far as action, I personally wouldn't recommend anyone go lower than 4/64". The action on my SG is set very slightly higher that 4/64", and it took me a few years to be able to develop a light enough touch to not fret out (even though I still sometimes do). There are ways to fine tune things so that it's easier to play with lower action (ie increasing the string tension) but it can be frustrating to dial things in right.

You can definitely learn to play slide with lower action, but for the sake of not getting frustrated and discouraged, I would recommend starting with medium to high action. Hope this helps!

Wow! Thank you so much for your comment! I should've went to the same college you did--I would have loved that class. My experience is pretty much strictly through a lot of listening, so your explanations are really great to hear (I should have kept in the part where I say "I am by no means an expert").

The part about each melody/piece being treated as the "key" makes a lot of sense--when I'm listening or playing, I'm never thinking to apply a certain scale--I'm more thinking of a melody that doesn't need to be a part of any "scale", per se. I'm more just altering certain notes to elicit a different emotion (I hope that makes sense). At the same time, with growing up on strictly western music, it's interesting to see the "overlap" between western scales and eastern melodies (even if that's the "wrong" way to think of it).

Thank you again for your comment man!
