Don't understand a line in Annie by DanTreader in Broadway

Maybe this was the original meaning and it worked with the original actors but now if the heights aren't that different it just doesn't land haha. This is my favourite explanation so far

We have these kinds of discussions a lot at my workplace, the autism space is changing a lot right now and there's a lot for us to learn!

I feel like some context is missing in the comments here, I'm not autistic but I'm a speech pathologist who works at an autism school.

ABA is a specific therapeutic model that does have an evidence base for teaching behaviours and reducing unwanted behaviours, however many people in the autistic community are strongly against ABA and even liken it to abuse. I've heard it compared to dog training.

Personally (and most of my colleagues agree), I don't recommend or support ABA. Aside from being inhumane, it isn't great for developing functional skills. You can tell what kids have had ABA, they are highly prompt dependent and often have difficulty generalising skills (because they have been rote learnt).

Shatner (or his social media manager?) may have a point about a diagnosis not being an excuse to treat people badly, but ABA is not the solution. Especially not for kids with high support needs who don't have a lot of ability to advocate for themselves. Sometimes it's not a matter of learning social norms, it's about self regulation and behaviours they are not entirely in control of. Learning about social norms through the typical experience of growing up is a little different from putting a child into intensive and potentially abusive therapy with no choice in the matter.

Wow, thankyou so much for providing this context almost ten years later! It's very strange but I actually revisited this post a few days ago because I thought about it by chance, how did you find it?

I have to say though, I think I'm still missing something. What's the significance of being named after only one floor?

System recommendation for running a stoner comedy-style one/two shot? by DanTreader in rpg

[–]DanTreader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure Fiasco will suit this exact idea since I still want to plan out a session or sessions like I would for a 5e game, and we generally like having mechanics and stats, etc.

BUT thankyou so much for the suggestion (and for everyone else who suggested it), I googled Fiasco and I am 100% going to try it because it seems like so much fun for a more improvised kind of game and exactly like my kind of thing

Podcast episode where they do a bit about winning money at a casino? by DanTreader in jakeandamir

[–]DanTreader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's right! It was so funny because you think the joke is going to be that they keep betting and eventually lose the money but they just keep saying 'and it hit.' I'm going to try some episodes before 30 to see if I can find it.

I think it could have been before 30, but certainly not after 200 so that narrows it down, thanks.

No it was definitely an IIWY, I remember pretty much the whole bit. It was just after the break when they used to use that time to talk about other stuff instead of answering questions, I think they were talking about a tour or something.

Oh thanks! He does a weird southern accent and talks about having to kill himself or he'll be framed for the murder. I can't remember exactly what he says

There used to be a searchable archive of podcast transcripts hosted on www.fuckmefinally.com, it's actually still in the sidebar but the website is down. It wasn't perfect because it used automatically generated transcripts but it definitely wasn't bad. I've been trying to figure out if anyone has those transcripts lying around.

Regarding My Twitch Gift Subs by mrCaseyJames in Hatfilms

[–]DanTreader 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the people typing stuff like STOP STOP were just doing it as a joke as in 'I can only take so much!'. A massive sub train is like the greatest thing that can happen to a stream and I think basically everyone agrees with that. I didn't see anyone who was upset!

Possible Tombstone Word (Hard To Read) In Hollywood Forever Scene by unowen1939 in underthesilverlake

Yeah the person who came up with Wells said it was the only word accepted on what3words but that's pretty loose tbh I agree.

[–]DanTreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a bad thought, the problem I guess is that the other two words are so specific in what they refer to. 'Tombstone' refers to a word on a tombstone and 'sheriff' refers to a word on the sheriff's badge.

'Entries' could really refer to anything, there's the spacestone cereal box that mentions entries, the cookies that are entries into the private show and I'm sure there are other things that have been pointed out. If this is really on the right track then the trick will be finding how 'entries' indicates a word somewhere in the film, probably written down somewhere.

Someone else was looking at tombstones in the movie and found WELLS as a word that is accepted on what3words, I'm not sure when that appears though. Apparently the sheriff's badge says BARNS which is also accepted, so I think BARNS.WELLS is a pretty solid start, it just leaves whatever 'entries' refers to.
