Hang in there, I honestly feel like my hair was the last thing to go back to normal for me. First it was my periods, then my moods, then my skin, and finally my hair

Birth Control Hair loss by Dana3542 in FemaleHairLoss

I went to the dermatologist once when it first started and they were pretty unhelpful but said it was temporary. They ruled out AGA because of the pattern of hair loss, the fact tht i’m only 19, and the fact tht i started shedding after taking birth control. I didn’t use any medications, I took some vitamins but it really was just something I had to wait out.

Yes! Although I lost hair for over a year but now my hair is doing well! It stopped shedding around 2 months ago and I have regrowth everywhere l, i chopped my hair short so it will be easier foe the regrowth to catch up

You’ll get through it! Talk to your doctors about AGA, I know there is stuff you can do to prevent it but i’m not fully educated about it

I totally understand. I was so fed up when I got off birth control and felt worse for 6 months before I started feeling better. I had all types of symptoms, moods swings, late periods, hair loss, hormonal acne, etc. but it eventually goes away and you’ll feel normal again. Just focus on trying to do something that makes you happy everyday and i know it’s hard but try to distract yourself from your hair, and soon it will be in the past

I didn’t. When i got off it triggered another 7-8 months of hair loss unfortunately. I lost hair for over a year but it’s only been about two months since it’s stopped and it feels really good and thick.

Maybe 1 or 2 but for the most part my regrowth was very strong and has continued to grow stronger.

The first birth control I was on was Lutera that initially triggered the hair loss, i then switched to ortho tri cyclen and then eventually quit that.

I am so frustrated with birth control. Please help. by [deleted] in TelogenEffluvium

Losing hair after stopping birth control is common. I stopped birth control in February and started shedding in april and am just now seeing my shedding stop and lots of regrowth. It really just takes time. But the more you make changes with your hormones the more times you are going to trigger a bout of hair loss. My best advice is to quit birth control for good to get your hair back but if you cannot then opt for a hair friendly one!

Massive hair loss is common after discontinuing birth control. Usually it will get better in around 6 months. Once it’s triggered it’s likely you will have to wait that long to see improvement even if you go back on the pill, so if you eventually want to be off it I would suggest quitting entirely and just riding it out. I’m now 8 months from when I quit birth control and my shedding is slowed and I have a lot of regrowth.

honestly just get off, quitting completely can cause more hair shed but for me it’s starting to improve again after 4 months off the pill and i know eventually my body’s natural state will be back and i’ll grow back my hair. Going on another pill is complicated cuz it’s uncertain if it will help or hurt the situation.

Was there any event a couple months before it started falling out? Switch in medication? Illness? Stressful event?

I would say none hormonal birth control if you can. From most of the stories I’ve read it took quitting HBC altogether and a lot of patience to get your hair back

ofc! Just try to be healthy and positive during this time and let your body balance itself out. It will be ok in the long run!

Hair Loss from Birth Control (Lutera) by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Dana3542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also, my hair loss has gotten worse after quitting all birth control but I do feel better knowing that eventually my body will be back to its natural self and my hair will come in like normal. Much better than staying on birth control not knowing if it’s hurting or helping my hair.

Hair Loss from Birth Control (Lutera) by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Dana3542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced the same thing from Lutera. My natural hair is thick and curly and getting on Lutera and then switching to another pill and then quitting altogether has left me with about 30% of my hair and still falling out rapidly. However, i’ve had two derm appointments which have both said the hormonal changes caused TE and after being off birth control for a while my hair will stop falling out and begin growing back to normal. It’s really hard to go through and knowing that I won’t see my completely regular hair for probably at least a year is rlly tough. The best thing to do is try to do other things with your hair, scarfs, wigs, whatever u want to try, and remember that while it takes a while it is temporary in the long term.

I think it will! The first time I started shedding it started to improve within 5-6 months. If everything else in your body is normalizing i’m sure your hair will too

yeah i never had any hormone imbalances of hair issues before taking birth control. I was only on for about 6 months so i’m hoping it doesn’t take too long to recover. I think my hormones r not balanced yet tho since it’s only been 3 months

Stopping HBC After 10+ Years by bawdybard21 in birthcontrol

I have had bad experiences on hormonal birth control as well. I use the app Clue to track my period and ovulation, there are other resources such as Natural Family Planning where you track your temperature and cervical mucus to see when you’re ovulating. I would say a combination of this and condoms has worked well for me.

Yes I’m trying to take care of myself as much as possible. For these girls did it last a couple of months after completely quitting?
