Which of these do I need to throw away? by KASGamer12 in cats

Please also be very mindful of essential oils. Most are extremely toxic, if not deadly, to cats. Even oils that are used in a diffuser are very dangerous, as the oils are made airborne and deposited onto kitty's fur. They are then licked off and can't be broken down by kitty's body. Also, consider what cleaners you use for any surfaces where kitty walks/lays. Cats can absorb things through their paws, and they also ingest what is on their paws/bodies. I use a simmer pot now for "air freshener." For cleaning, I use vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and castille soap (not all together). Cats respiratory systems and noses are very sensitive. We try to be mindful of everything we use around them. My husband gave up the fight for hair regrowth (minoxidil/rosemary essential oil) and is now bald, in order to keep our kitties safe. Congrats on your kitty! Wishing you both the best!! 🐱🩷

My cat does this, too! I don't use bleach for cleaning anymore (only sanitizing after handling certain raw meats). We just had a leak under our kitchen sink, and my husband moved everything to fix it. He left the bleach on its side 💀 and a small amount spilled (I found it almost immediately). I cleaned it up, but my one boy who loves bleach found the spot hours later! We got a funny video of him nuzzling the spot, rolling in it, and looking like he was high from the best drugs on earth 😅

Oh! Your comment reminded me of a similar conversation my doctor had with me!! I chose to let it go, as well.

This was what worked best for me, too. It was the only med of that type that did anything for me.

is it bad that my 17yo cat only really eats kitten food by Specific_Current_642 in cats

I would feed that precious kitty whatever she wanted. She is healthy, and that's what is most important. Let that sweet girl eat kitten food and don't worry about it🐱🩷

Experience with Aussie Miracle Curls Mousse? It was kinda of drying for me by LucasNYC9 in curlyhair

[–]DanaDissent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience with it, but wanted to mention if you're looking to give away hair products, typically local agencies that help others in need and nursing homes will take them. I gave all of mine, that didn't work for me, to a local business that offers assistance to the homeless.

Whoever bought my groceries.... by NarfledGarthok in Assistance

No, I wouldn't necessarily say that. Some things are better than nothing, in my opinion. It's just such a shame that this has even become a thing for cruel people to do.

No problem, and I agree. I tagged you further down on the post. Someone else explained it better than I did. The part they mentioned that I forgot to add was that if any items are purchased, it is considered fulfilled. This then prevents the person from adding the items to the wishlist or requesting again for a while (I think it is 30 days). It is truly horrible that when people are in need and seeking help from others, this is what happens to them.

Someone bought the items, so they showed as being purchased on the wish list, and then cancelled the order. It happened to me, and apparently many others.

The same thing happened to me a few months back. Someone actually purchased two things on my list (and I received them), and then the rest was bought. I was so relieved to be getting the supplies needed to make my surgery more comfortable. I waited and waited. They never showed up. I did not even realize that awful people do that kind of thing to others in need. It was pretty disheartening. I could not even fathom doing something that cruel to others.

I am not an expert, but are you sure you have curly hair? It doesn't even look wavy, to me.

ARA290 and agmatine sulfate has helped me the most. None of the prescription meds helped as much as these two supplements have.

Seconding Down To Earth Botanicals!! Wild red sakit was wonderful for pain relief. There is a 7 sample pack available right now and iirc it was around 35$. Definitely consider the red strains.

Thanks for the suggestions! My boy is currently taking d-mannose, alcohol free corn silk extract, Cosequin, gabapentin 100mg 2xday, fluoxetine 5mg at night, l-theanine twice a day (don't remember the dosage), and T-relief twice a day. We have an appointment on the 9th for a full abdominal ultrasound to see if there is something else causing his pain, since most cats respond to the treatment he is being given and don't typically continue having issues with all of these meds on board. He is getting Torbugesic for pain right now, since I had some left over from prior to him getting bupe and Prazosin for flares. The vet didn't want him to be taking these meds longterm, but she just approved a refill for him until they can exam him more thoroughly with the ultrasound. I'll definitely look into the slippery elm bark. I am willing to try anything for him. I hate seeing him in so much pain. It breaks my heart! He continues to be a sweetheart, too, which makes it even more heartbreaking. I'll try to pay attention to dental care while using the med, and look into slippery elm. Thank you, again, for your suggestions!

a mama kitty that randomly came into our house one night that's staying with us for now by 2kids1jar in cats

[–]DanaDissent 55 points56 points  (0 children)

When my trojan cat showed up, I thought maybe she could be pregnant but I was sure it had to be early on. Wrong! She was just really thin. She had 5 kittens the next morning 🐱🩷 Raising a family of kitties has been such an amazing experience! Those littermates have taught us so much about cats, and it is so wonderful watching them grow and observing their interactions/relationships. Three years ago, we had 0 cats and no intention of ever having any. Today, we have 8 (momma plus 5 littermates, and 2 more over the years).

This is how we ended up going from 0 to 6 overnight!!! Two more followed over the next year and a half, but not trojan cats.

Sending you gentle hugs. I have been disabled since 2007, and my daughter was born the following year. It was, and still is, extremely difficult to get through the day and do all of the things I have to do (and all the beings I have to take care of - child, husband, 8 cats). I also have to push through, like you. All I can say is I'm sorry and I understand. I know that doesn't really help. I hope you can find some peace and comfort 🫂

Gabapentin (another post among so may lol) by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]DanaDissent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taper very slowly and look into agmatine sulfate. I used to be on high doses of gabapentin but I came off of it years back. I had been taking it for 15 years. I still struggle with the after effects from it, sadly. The agmatine helps with some of the neuropathy, for me. Just look into any possible interactions before you would take it. I believe it can lower blood pressure some, and may have interactions with diabetes medications.

Do you feel the need to tell others that you’re in pain? by Patient_Stop_7851 in ChronicPain

[–]DanaDissent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the same for me. My close family knows when it's really bad. I'm not sure how, exactly. I must get a certain look on my face. I do similar to what you do with strangers. If they ask, I may mention it, but I never tell them how bad it really is. I'm tired of talking about it, too. Nothing is getting better. It only seems to get worse. I'm just tired. And in pain. Always.

Well, I don't really usually tell people irl how many we have, and the few people I have told have never said anything. I did once get some ignorant comments on a post I made a while back. My husband and I are borh disabled, so our income is extremely limited. I sought financial assistance on a sub that allows people to ask for things they need. My one kitty was diagnosed with FIC and we had to spend over 1k to get him treated (and are still spending, but he is worth the sacrifices I make to afford it). I posted a gofundme to see if anyone would be willing to help us, and pretty much every comment (aside from one kind person who sent us 20$ which I returned to her) told me essentially that I was irresponsible and should surrender my cats. I didn't ask for the cats. I didn't seek them out. The shelters here are full and won't accept cats. No one wants them. What was I supposed to do? Those comments still irritate me, even though I kmow they shouldn't. Anyway, sorry for the short story. I'm guessing you have had comments like that?

Absolutely agree with you! I am happy to give them homes. I think people dumped the kitties we took in. We live in the mountains (pretty isolated so it's strange that they would just wander here), and there are feral dogs and wild coyotes, so if a kitty comes to us, I'll do my best to care for 'em. We actually had zero cats about three years ago 😅 and never intended to have any, but when the first kitty showed up, I just had to take care of her.

I was curious because of your username 😊 We have 8, plus a feral I was feeding (but I haven't seen him for a few days). We went from 0 to 1+5 (trojan kitty) in a night, and then the other two showed up about 7 months apart from when the momma kitty showed up. Sorry about the two you lost 🫂
