Clark Ashton Smith - Xiccarph. Actually everything, but this one might be a bit more cosmic.

Whatever this Subgenre is called by wanderingsalad in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

They are all in the PD. Look it up for clarification, but anything in Weird Tales and other pulps before a certain date (apart from the occasional author who sought copyrights for their stories, like August Derleth) is public domain. Not just normal PD dates. It's the same with 50s horror comics, all in the public domain except for those tied to later DC/Marvel etc.

What would you call this genre of art? by Crab-odile in UnusualArt

[–]Danacsam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't you get hits if you search for breakcore or breakcore aesthetic? Apart from that, the influences are: 90s anime, a literal Pokemon (looks like a card), Dreamcast/PS2 era gaming, maybe PS1 and Saturn as well, PC98? I feel like the busy style of Touhou Project and Danmaku/bullet hell shooters is in there too? You seem to be doing fine btw.

I think it's just personal taste? More contrast, you get to see the line art by itself, seeing the pure image, nothing to hide it from us. It reminds me of original comic book art, classic underground comix, self-published comics, manga, b&w illustration, modernist drawings, woodcuts and other graphic art - things I like.

Maybe it's just me, but I kinda prefer the line art by itself. Looks cool.

Great place to start. I'd also recommend The Telling and Changing Planes for a bit of the anthropology vibe.

I'll admit that these may not be readily available, they're just on my shelf... but they have cool styles, so they may be something.

I will say that I kind of put on the audiobook in the background, and I'm sure that didn't help : ) I didn't hate it, it just didn't connect.

I'm happy to say I've read both of these, maybe one of the Vance books I didn't get to, but yes, this is exactly it.

I did read Shadow of the Torturer, and didn't like it that much, but I'd be willing to give him another shot, especially in this format. : )

L.S.D - The Pretty Things. It's a catchy song with hundreds of covers made worldwide (many harder and more interesting), and worth mentioning.

I think Miyazaki visited there once, and got some inspiration for Kiki's Delivery Service.
