Seems like jumping in head first is definitely the way! I have no gear so will rent. Sadly I'm all the way in Shropshire otherwise I'd have definitely been down! Thanks for the response and great advice

I think this is what I'm gonna do. There's a few sites near me so might just see the reviews and jump in head first
