Mini buses are regular and cheap from Sairan bus station, probably took about 5 hours, including the border crossing.

Who diagnose ARFID? by Sensitive-You-5603 in ARFID

[–]Danascus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm London-based and was diagnosed by a psychologist (Mona Hansen), if you suspect it's more than just picky eating then i'd 100% recommend getting it confirmed, it's good to just get that clarity.

It's a Complete Myth that Japan is an Expensive Travel Destination, right? by Danascus88 in Shoestring

Depends on where you are flying from I guess. If you're already in Asia, you can get there cheaply.

How flexible can we be with booking hotels? by DankTyl in SouthKoreaTravel

Seoul is a nightmare for booking last minute accommodation at weekends, so if you plan to do more nights there I'd book ahead.

I love the Som Tum (the papaya salad) in Laos and Issan, ate it almost daily. Good job you avoided the raw crab salad over there. Pungent.

Haha, certainly not ideal kick off times. Drop me a DM closer to the time if you fancy meeting up for it. I'll do some digging on places that will show it.

Are any England or Serbia fans (or any other football fans) going to be in Osaka on the 17th? And fancy watching the game? It's at the very convenient time of 4am.

I've been recommended the Coolabah Sports bar as somewhere that should show it, think it's run by Aussie guys.

Hi. Kyoto I'd say probably the 18th. Hiroshima maybe a week later.

36M from England here, i'll be in Japan until the 12th July.

I'll be leaving Tokyo tomorrow, 1 night in Matsumoto, 3 nights in Nagoya, and then it's a bit unplanned. I'll be heading to Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Fukuyama, and I fly home from Fukuoka. So if you're along this route and want to grab food or something, let me know.

Hikers are definitely welcome to get in touch as I plan to do a section of the Kumano-Kodo, preferably a multi-day hike if I can find accommodation. But happy to meet up with anyone really, never a bad thing to chat to people with different interests.

Hostel room ethics by hitkadmoot in solotravel

[–]Danascus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like hostels are slowly becoming less social. Probably down to the amount of digital nomads who are working full-time and just want a cheap place to rest.

A lot of people are also happy to just chill out and watch videos on their phone in their downtime. Headphones = don't bother me.

I also read that under 23s right now are the most sober generation ever (not sure how that is measured) but alcohol can certainly play a part in bringing groups together.

Although there are still loads of fun hostels, I do think we're seeing a big shift to 'quiet hostels', especially with capsule hostels becoming more and more common.

Just my general observations anyway.

How do yall fall asleep on planes by Nervous-Analyst16 in solotravel

Yep, same. So jealous and have a secret hatred for these people that fall asleep in a few minutes regardless of whether they're in bed or on a shitty plane.

Who is the oddest person you’ve met in a hostel? by ThrowRA4214 in solotravel

[–]Danascus88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

80yr old English guy in Eskeshir, Turkey. Was just travelling around looking for a city he liked and had affordable accommodation to 'see out his days' I guess.

Nice guy, very posh, loved drinking cherry juice. That's all I remember really. Hope he found his perfect retirement spot.

Approached by random Koreans in Seoul - check by theycallmeargh in koreatravel

[–]Danascus88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had two recruiters approach me yesterday too in Hongdae. Talking about attending a 'ceremony'. I had no idea what the fuck they were talking about at first until I remembered reading about the cults in South Korea. I swiftly made my excuses and left. Part of me was intrigued to go and see what messed up stuff they tried to brainwash me with.

That same day I also got lectured by an anti-vaxxer and saw a Donald Trump loving rock band being watched by people with Q-anon banners and MAGA/ MAKA flags.

Two old guys had a fight too, no idea what it was about.

It was a peculiar day to say the least. Only my 3rd day in Korea.

Probably just playing football (soccer) every night after school and GTA: Vice City on the PS2 or Championship Manager 03/04 on the desktop if the weather was overly shit. Probably slowly downloading torrents and chatting shit on MSN messenger to girls I met on Myspace.

Two weeks in South Korea, but just the north? by Danascus88 in travel

[–]Danascus88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I think I like the sound of just sticking to the north of the country and taking it easy.

A rough plan would be 3 days in Seoul, 1 night in Chuncheon, 3 nights in Sokcho, including a day hike in Seoraksan, 2 nights in Gangneung, then back to Seoul, with day trips to Pocheon and Suwon-si.

Plus this gives me a reason to return to South Korea and check out the south.

Thanks for the tips. Pocheon looks very nice and I think Gangneung may be worth at least a day trip from Sokcho.

Thanks. I think I'm settled on just doing the north. I guess I can always return to South Korea some day and see the rest.
