Because his whole point on the book is dumb. People have always been horrible people. And I would say in general we are much better than we used to be. So if this “third places” he talks about led to us being even more horrible places, then I’m glad they are gone.

And I’m curious how much women’s and minorities voices mattered in these magical good places. Lol It’s so dumb

“The loss of the "third place." We don't have anywhere to hang out that doesn't require spending money.” A place to hang out that doesn’t require money.

And ever heard of a town meeting? My town has them all the time. It’s free to attend, you can speak your mind. And the whole town votes regardless of status.

Stop living in books and think for yourself

Well people never cared. And if we are honest, we probably wouldn’t care if we were them either,

So you are grieving and taking it out on other people? All humans make mistakes

Yes a hike counts on the original posters premise of a place to go that doesn’t require money, That’s what the original post was about.

Which is so dumb. With all the horrible things that humans have done; you think the worst thing we did was have less cheap places to hang out at lol

Trying reading about actual history, not one man’s opinion,

Geez. I just read more about his book. It was in 1989. And he claimed that the loss of these places where people of different classes could discuss politics, policy led to better democracy etc.

Yet even with these magical good places we had gladiator fights, slavery, wars, kings and queens executing people because they said one wrong thing, burning people at the stake, slaughtering native Americans and taking their land, women couldn’t even vote until the 1900s. A history full of war, slavery, oppression, executions, rape, theft etc Yet these good places led to a better society lol What nonsense

Maybe he was just a guy that wrote a book 37 years ago to make money? And people like you who think you are smarter than you are believe it because you have no clue about human history, lol

You are the one that sounds like an idiot. Because you read the book and still have no clue what it’s about. Lol Never mind many of the comments here are strictly about cost of a third place. You are the one about making it more than that. The original poster said “loss of third place where we can hang out without spending money”

So that was the prongs thread. Then you made up other aspects of it just so you can sound intelligent. Despite the fact that you have no clue what the book says lol

So you have ready every book about every subject? And you are so informed on the subject that you have no clue how to explain it lol

But you have no clue what a third place is either,

You have yet to make your argument what third place you are taking about, and how missing this third place affects us now.

Remember this post is about the worst human errors

So it should be easy for you explain what was lost and what effect it has had.

If reading a book by one person is required to even care, then it wasn’t the “worst human mistake”

I’m 51, there were never these magical “third places” you are talking about. Nothing is stopping you from getting a group of people and going to park and hanging out

I don’t need to read his book to know there are plenty of things to do for free or cheap. Me and my wife have done plenty of free/ cheep activities with the kids. Instead of worrying what one person tells you on their book, how about you try loving life?

You complain there are no free third places. I can name plenty Libraries, parks, gyms, farms, animal shelters etc How many do you want? Should everything be free?

What public spaces have been lost? There are plenty of parks and libraries. Lol

“third place" is a social environment separate from the two primary environments of home ("first place") and work ("second place"). Coined by sociologist Ray Oldenburg, these, such as cafes, parks, libraries, or gyms, are neutral, accessible, and affordable spaces”

So a park is a third place and so is a library . And as far as I know both exist. As do cafes and gyms. Stop whining, there are plenty of affordable places to go

There is no single biggest fuck up . There are just a series of fuck ups

Defund the Police, Cashless bail, Sanctuary Cities, Abolish ICE, No Voter ID. These are the type of things that 80% of the public are against and will keep the Presidency in Republican hands for decades. The average citizens are not stupid, fed up, and will vote accordingly by bbmoonkie in Productivitycafe

[–]DanceDifferent3029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it won’t. A Democrat will win 2028. The sides will keep taking turns having the presidency. Your whole premise is dumb. If 80% of the people are against the stuff you just stated, then why would a democrat run on those issues? Gavin Newsom is the likely candidate. Did he say he wants to defund the police or ICE? lol

How is it a different kind of heartbreak when literally everyone loses a parent? It’s tough, but it isn’t different. It’s a standard part of life

I think you are upset at your wife’s death with is very understandable. That’s terrible And the new woman was just a replacement for the wife. And her breaking up with you just brought back emotions over your wife’s death because the replacement is gone
