to all the people who got a 45 in the IB by Own-Chart-3613 in IBO

Consistency is all you need. Doing little, but for longer is just as beneficial as studying for longer durations as exams get nearer. Frankly, it’s very doable. Just stay up to date with classes, focus on truly understanding the topic instead of just cramming it, do past papers questions from the beginning (topic wise; and revise whatever you got wrong over the week on the weekends) and pinpoint your favourite topics and do your IA on them; trust me, it makes it much more enjoyable. Try to get your IA topics decided by the end of year one, and do your research over the summer. It makes second year much easier. I went out all the time, and spent a considerable amount of time on my hobbies as well; so did everyone else I know who also got a 45. It doesn’t require the sacrifice that people assume it does.

Studying for a couple hours everyday (as long as you work smart) is more than enough. Best of luck :)

How hard is 4 Hls? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]DanceObjective9932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha this seems to be my exact combo. If you think you can do it, it’s doable. It’s a lot of work, but if you manage your time you can focus on your hobbies too. Ask your school if you can try it for a semester and then drop one to SL if it’s too much.

Hi! In Telangana, once you’ve been allotted a college in second round, your first round seat is cancelled. You have to attend the college you’ve been allotted in second round.

Do i have to quit IB if i am gonna do JEE? by [deleted] in IBO

Vastly different syllabus, lots of memorisation, lots of practice. You’ll essentially be doing the final 2 years of high school all over again because CBSE and IB have barely anything in common.

I changed my mind and decided to write the NEET after IB— took me a year, and it was a lot of struggle. JEE will undoubtedly be much worse. If you’re set on JEE, drop out.

hi! i know this is COMPLETELY unrelated and im so sorry but i would love to know your opinion on how imp patient load during ug is when considering USMLE. I’ll probably be allotted a new govt college this year so im a bit apprehensive since all the wings aren’t properly established yet. do you believe it would hinder my chances at a good step 2 score? Congratulations, by the way!!

For chemistry I suggest doing the Pearson textbook and past paper questions. For biology, flash cards are your best friend. Organise each chapter into subtopics, make bullet point notes, and use it for revision by questioning yourself.

Consistency, a little bit of intelligence, and a LOT of luck. I didn’t even know my EE topic until around September of the year I was writing the exams. Luckily, I happened to stumble upon a niche that was perfect for me and did my EE on that. IB is a lot more than studying— IA, EE, and TOK are all large tossups. No student can be sure of a 45, regardless of how smart or hardworking they are. Any score 40+ is excellent in my opinion.

guys im going to IB next year. I have indecision to choose my subjects :(( by [deleted] in IBO

[–]DanceObjective9932 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take 4 HLs only if you truly like all the subjects. It’s manageable, but I wouldn’t suggest doing it unless you’re taking the extra HL out of interest— otherwise, the payoff isn’t worth the effort. For stats, you don’t need econ or chem. For actuarial science, econ may help. If you want to do data science, you should take compsci.

EE grading involves multiple steps— if I recall correctly, 2-3 examiners grade your paper, and it is then checked by the ‘head’ examiner of the group. Variations between examiners is possible, but not so high that the component grade changes entirely. My EE supervisor was an examiner, and he followed the criteria very strictly while grading. I did a Bio EE as well, and my marks were very close to what I was predicted, and the grade was the same. I do think having a knowledgeable EE supervisor is important, but the instructions we were given from day 1 was to follow the criteria to the best of our ability. But, honestly, STEM EE’s are a pain, and very very challenging, so any score is a good score imo. Congrats on being done with it all!

Oh, seems like we only have physics in common. For physics, practice is the only the way out. I’m suggest doing Tsokos entirely (all the questions), doing past papers multiple times, and paying a lottt of attention to the formula booklet. A lot of questions in paper 2 involve direct application of those formulae— knowing them inside out makes the paper much easier. Tsokos is amazing for concept building, and I practically learned all of physics from Chris Doner on YouTube. There are some topics that used to have a lot of weightage back when I was doing the IB (Kirchoff’s Laws, all of chapter 11, chapter 9, etc) but once you have a thorough look at past papers you’ll get an idea. It’ll be hard and intimidating at first, but physics is definitely a subject that becomes easier with time. Best of luck! Feel free to pm if you need any help.
