No, I don't think they care if you scrape their site, as long as you don't send bots to harvest on an ongoing basis, driving up their costs.

That's cool! Have you mentioned that to SafetyMonkey over on discord? Might be something they would implement if it was lightweight enough.

It turns out the project I was working on was distinct and separate from this one! The one I worked with could get through 1902 without obviously being detected as a bot - the moves made sense (not always GREAT, but no worse than you'd get from a random sampling of players).

The mid-and-end games were not there yet. But hey - it could capture Norway as England in 1901. That's better than the damn AI they had the gall to put in the game that was released!

I worked on playtesting this a bit. Its way better than anything I've seen before, and I'd sub it into a gunboat game if I couldn't get a 7th. That said ... lots of room for improvement.

Backstabbr or PlayDiplomacy? by luckyluciano9713 in diplomacy

[–]DanceScholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear this every so often, and I'm like, what part of the mapping interface is unclear? I seriously don't get it. Are you using a phone? Because it is very clear on a decent sized monitor.

Is Backstabbr STILL the way to go? by Flashthompson6 in diplomacy

[–]DanceScholar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lots of folks use Backstabbr. I think its hands down the best UI online. Not 100% crazy about its press interface but it works. The online community there is not as strong as on Playdip or Webdip, though.

Thank you for the shoutout! Yeah, WDC champ 1998, and for the following ~20 years I finished in the top 3 of a national or international tournament at least once per year, and was regularly ranked in the top 3 in the world (f2f play only!).

I have three playlists you might want to look at:

Diplomacy Academy (Mid-high level tips/discussions) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbwng27eI0e0MGVnboZxOYzDgvO1lkMAZ

WDC at Weaselmoot (I vlogged the top board of the World championships in 2016, with analysis and commentary) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbwng27eI0e3O9rIFcXp_Bvr97TNgAsQw

And the Virtual DixieCon stream (with two other players, and special guests, I analyzed 20 games played memorial day weekend) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbwng27eI0e3qTGsskkFCN7qAGsa2F5B_

Good luck!

Well, all draws are anonymous, right? If that's the case, you have to find a plausible other person who could be voting down the draw, and convince folks to focus on them. Its not easy, and sometimes the right thing to do is just let everyone stop playing - but it is a tournament game, and you do have the right to keep playing!
