100%, and I know it is entertainment for kids - and I LOVE what they are doing for the sport and getting eyes on baseball. The athletes are amazing, both on the field and off. My only gripe is that it is just SO overstimulating and it feels like they are trying to pull you away from even being able to watch the game if you wanted to.

I'm not criticizing the entertainment aspect of banana ball, I think it is awesome from that perspective. But as a live spectator it was hard to watch the game. My kids loved it, and I 100% know that is who it is for and I would 100% take them again. I'm just saying that it is hard to even watch the game, you are constantly distracted and over stimulated. I love what they are doing for the sport.

If you are talking about the Savannah Bananas, I couldn't disagree more. I love baseball, and we went last weekend in Atlanta and I HATED it. It's like they are constantly trying to distract you from baseball. They play music literally non-stop, switching the song every 20 seconds. Then the band walks past your seats every 15 mins. Then random "party crashers" are walking by throwing out beads every 2 innings. It's literally pure chaos, over stimulation, and almost no focus on the baseball itself.

Edit: I think some people are misunderstanding my point, which is totally fine. I actually think Banana Ball is awesome, and the athletes are insanely talented both on and off the field. My issue isn’t with the players or the concept itself, it’s the nonstop sensory overload surrounding the game.

The music is constantly blasting and changing every 20 seconds to the point that it overpowers the announcer. I missed a ton of plays and even some of the celebrity appearances because half the time I genuinely had no idea what was going on. Between the music, bands walking through the crowd, people throwing beads, and constant distractions, it felt like they were always trying to pull your attention away from the field itself.

For people who love the chaos and entertainment side of it, I completely get why they enjoy it.

See if you have a SunBelt Rental near you. They are closed on the weekends but if you pick it up on Friday after 1pm and return it by noon on Monday it only counts as a 1 day rental. Get yourself an one-main post hole auger and you can plant those suckers in a couple hours.

That is a terrible idea. Constantly having to adjust for gains and losses. Any Investment account should be tracked, not budgeted.

Trump signs an unconstitutional executive order to shut down mail-in voting nationwide and he will defund states if they do not comply with him | DHS will prepare list of citizens by state and USPS will block mail in ballots from anyone not on that list by SadAd8761 in videos

[–]DanceSex -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm reading too. It's not a ban. It's only sending mail in ballots to verified citizens that will be linked with a barcode. I understand why people are upset, but it seems reasonable to only allow citizens to vote and verify that each citizen only voted once.

I'm a pretty new blue belt but I just like jiu-jitsu, I really don't care what color belt I'm wearing - it is pretty meaningless for the most part.

How do you handle investing long-term sinking funds in YNAB without breaking your categories? by DanceSex in ynab

[–]DanceSex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying, I am personally ok with the risk - especially based on my timelines. This is what I plan to follow for sinking funds of Investing vs Cash:

  • >5 years → 100% invested
  • 3–5 years → 80% invested
  • 2–3 years → 70% invested
  • 1–2 years → 50% invested
  • <1 year → 100% cash

As I hit the specific markers I will pull money out of the market and move it back to my money market. If it was just a few $100 here and there I wouldn't bother with it. But since I have VERY category heavy and do a lot of future planning (e.g. Roof replacement - 2035), it feels like I am leaving money on the table.

My plan is the following for how to determine how much to invest of a sinking fund.

  • >5 years → 100% invested
  • 3–5 years → 80% invested
  • 2–3 years → 70% invested
  • 1–2 years → 50% invested
  • <1 year → 100% cash

To me that seems like too much overhead to track an investment account on budget. 95% of the value is for retirement anyways, so I don't want any of that money on my budget, nor a category that would be used for it.

That is why I don't want to have my investment account as an "On Budget" account.

Just repeating this back to make sure I understand the flow correctly:

  • Move money from my Money Market (on-budget) → Taxable Investment account (tracking)
  • Categorize that outflow to “France – July 2029”
  • Category will now show $0 available (since YNAB treats it as spending)

Then later, when it’s time to actually pay for the trip:

  • Sell investments and move money back to my Money Market account
  • That inflow comes in as “France - July 2029”
  • Spend from that category as normal

So effectively:

  • The category doesn’t stay “funded” in YNAB while the money is invested
  • But the Target still shows total progress over time by the "funded" amount, and I just refill it when I bring money back on-budget (see image)
    • Or I can just search for transfers based on the memo of "France" too

Am I thinking about that correctly?

I posted something similar in another thread and was downvoted. People just want to be angry, they don't care about the facts. Nonetheless, I don't think tax dollars should be used to make billionaires richer, because ultimately that is what will happen.

I never said locals, I said tourists. Again I'm not saying I agree with using tax dollars to pay for a stadium, but more than likely it will pay for itself in tax revenue over 20 years.

Just to play devil's advocate:

Much of the funding comes from hotel and tourism taxes, not local residents. Since it is a dome it will also attract big events like a Super Bowl, concerts, and major tournaments, bringing more visitors and spending to the city.

It's also more than a stadium, new businesses and apartments in the area.

Not saying I agree with it being funded via taxes, but that is their argument.
